Paid Members LaGoosh Posted July 1, 2025 Author Paid Members Posted July 1, 2025 I'd like to see them announce on TV when wrestlers are injured and send best wishes (this can be done in 10 seconds by the commentary team) because it not only informs the audience that someone isn't going to be on TV for awhile but in-universe you can use it to highlight that wrestling is SUPER DANGEROUS and that adds a bit of stakes to everything. I know that's maybe been really generous to them because I'm a big tribal bastard but, given the way the commentators talk about him, I always got the sense that they see some potential there. He was one of the relatively small number of people JR seemed to genuinely enjoy calling matches for, which definitely counts for something. Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted July 1, 2025 Author Paid Members Posted July 1, 2025 I remember JR on commentary once saying about Silver "a great competitor in the ring and a wonderful guy out of it" which warmed my heart at the time. Quote
Paid Members Statto Posted July 1, 2025 Paid Members Posted July 1, 2025 Just adding to the John Silver love and adding that I'm also a big Alex Reynolds guy - or at least, I see a lot of value in them as a team and think they're criminally underused on "main" AEW TV. How the fuck Private Party got a tag title run while those boys do sweet FA I'll never know. Quote
Merzbow Posted July 1, 2025 Posted July 1, 2025 Silver could have been an OC level babyface if they tried with him, just as likeable if not more and super talented. Quote
Chili Posted July 1, 2025 Posted July 1, 2025 John Silver reminds me of the heady days of 2020 during the pandemic and BTE was genuinely worth actually watching for the bits where Silver couldn't get through a single scene without breaking into giggles. Just a generally wonderful bloke to watch, I hope they finally get round to doing ANYTHING with him again. Quote

Sometimes there are announcements. It doesn't make much difference. For those that don't see it they'd be left oblivious. And those that do will forget pretty quickly leaving them to wonder and/or just lead to questions about those that are missing from tv that don't get an injury announcement. Quote
Guest Posted July 1, 2025 Posted July 1, 2025 I don't know if this is true for AEW too, but WWE don't want to announce concussions. They can't then announce everything but concussions, because that as good as announcing concussions. Quote
digforvictory Posted July 1, 2025 Posted July 1, 2025 John Silver had a Dr Steve Brule T shirt on an episode of Being the Elite many years ago. I knew there and then he was a great guy. Quote

That seems like an argument against explaining or airing anything at all on their TV. What's the point of putting that on the show? The people who don't see it won't have seen it anyway. I'm all for the announcements, ideally if the person can do a little promo too. Even if it's an at home/on their phone one, where they vow to come back stronger than ever etc. If they can blame it on someone to sow the seeds of a return feud that's even better. Some people might not remember it, but some people will and it certainly doesn't do any harm. Jay White's promo on Collision after missing out on The Owen was great. I was a bit annoyed at how they glossed over his injury on Dynamite, but he cut this fired up promo on the next show (quite possibly channelling a bit of real frustration) and he threw shots at Ospreay, Kevin Knight AND the Death Riders. They can choose to pick up or not pick up any of those threads when he comes back, but it's all out there and they can refer back to it if they want. They don't need to do it for everyone but I definitely agree that they should do it more often. Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted July 2, 2025 Author Paid Members Posted July 2, 2025 Shitty wrestlers posting cryptic whining on social media strikes again: Of all the people. She's lucky they didn't sack her after the All In and "nobody cares" shit sandwich. Quote
Tim Healys Chutney Spoon Posted July 2, 2025 Posted July 2, 2025 I'm not sure how it could be done, but I'd love a short trios run of The Outrunners and John Silver teaming up. Quote

A trios team of Uno, Silver and Reynolds could also be a lot of fun. Silver is such a memorable wrestler, I’m surprised that they’ve not done more with him. I could absolutely see him moving to WWE - either directly, or via TNA - and becoming a bit of a cult figure if he continues to go unused. Quote

Gooshy mentioned yesterday that it's a dangerous sport and the injuries highlight that. They clearly want to create the opposite impression. 2 hours ago, Tim Healys Chutney Spoon said: I'm not sure how it could be done, but I'd love a short trios run of The Outrunners and John Silver teaming up. Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted July 2, 2025 Paid Members Posted July 2, 2025 (edited) I thought the FTR/Outrunners segment on Collision this past week, with FTR basically burying them on mic and telling them the drpped the ball during their tag title shot, was going to lead to some evolution of the act and maybe Outrunners shedding the more silly parts of their gimmick and becoming more serious. But instead they just doubled down on their usual Outrunner-ness. I'm with @tiger_rick - I think they're pretty rubbish and would drop them. Edited July 2, 2025 by Lorne Malvo Quote
