Got a good 90 minutes in to that, I think its fair to say the squashes are a lot more fun than the more competitive matches with the Freebirds, etc. Did enjoy the opener with Varsity Club though, was surprised to see the Steiners lose so shortly in to their run. Got the Starrcade 89 stuff to come, I seem to remember enjoying those matches when I saw them years ago.

Enjoying my way through it too. One thing I've never really thought about/noticed before; Rotunda in 89 was jacked. He looks a proper physical animal when he still has his jacket on. Don't really associate him like that from his IRS days.

Watching the six man of Steiners & Williams vs. Freebirds instantly makes me think of how a few years later Williams & Gordy would be teaming up in Japan and then coming over to feud with the Steiners.

I remember it was around the time ITV were showing WCW Worldwide episodes on Saturday daytime and they showed brilliant videos hyping the feud before another match in the series between the Steiners and the (not referred to then in America?) Miracle Violence Connection which made it seem like it was a legitimate contest between the two best tag teams in the world (especially compared to something like the Bushwhackers vs Beverely Brothers in the WWF).

I am going to search for those matches to watch on Youtube now, but if they haven't already done so then hope the Vault includes them in a future Steiners 1992 complilation (please).

Another thing I thought about from watching that six man was how much of a beast/hoss (whatever JR would have called him) that Terry Gordy was in his prime. If the WWF had brought him in around '89 to '92 putting Gordy with Jimmy Hart or Bobby Heenan would he have been a success? It wouldn't have to have been with something like The Executioner gimmick (although that might have worked better then than 1996) but imagine heel Terry Gordy vs. WWF prime babyface's Dusty Rhodes, Jake the Snake, Macho Man, Hulk Hogan or new WWF champion Ultimate Warrior!

I can't imagine any of them, aside from maybe Savage, being happy to take all those bumps from Gordy in 1990. Id rather see a longer run in WCW, against people like Steamboat, Dustin Rhodes and Ricky Morton.

The best match that Gordy and Williams had in WCW was the match where they lost the tag titles to Windham and Rhodes on Saturday Night. Great 30 min match, doesn’t seem to be on YouTube but the last 15 mins are:

And while on the subject of Terry Gordy, here’s the incredible feud with Killer Khan that led to one of the greatest bloody brawls of the 80s and a symbolic end to the Von Erichs vs Freebirds feud (until it restarted)

That Khan/Gordy match is fucking wicked.

Most Terry Gordy AJPW matches are wonderful and worth a watch. Just violent and stiff. A shame how he went downhill in the 90s after the overdose. He was a hell of a worker.

In some ways yes, but I just think it would have been interesting how they would all have matched up in the WWF with Gordy who would have taken a lot of bumps himself - although the WWF ring might have changed his mind about doing so much of that.

If the WWF main eventers weren't more willing to work against him, then Terry Gordy against Mr Perfect or Bret Hart (who Gordy was several years younger than both) would have been interesting. (Plus Big Boss Man!)

Now I am thinking about all kinds of dream matches (late 1980's = Gordy & Hansen vs. Demolition?!) but Terry Gordy was one of the best big man wrestlers along with others who could have had some interesting WWF runs if things had been different:

Ron Simmons in trunks had a massive arse, is my take away from that, as has been my takeaway for years. Like a bag of sand. If he had tits and long hair there would be folk calling him Thicc and getting all the plaudits.
