Paid Members Carbomb Posted December 23, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 23, 2024 Had a really good Triple Cheese Special yesterday - cheddar, brie, and parmesan. Bit of pepper, thyme, garlic powder, mayo, and some McIlhenny Tabasco to cut through the fattiness, on white bread heels. Quote
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted December 24, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 24, 2024 After doing the leg of pork monstrosity last night, I'm cooking the usual marmalade gammon this eve for a buffet. All of this is inexorably leading to me making an enormous cubanos on Boxing Day. Quote

Just a few minutes under the grill, but yeah very nice. That'll do until dinner. I also took @Mr_Danger advice and cut my nob off, Punkstep style. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted December 28, 2024 Author Members Posted December 28, 2024 I have picked up an awful cold so I'm purely on sandwiches and paracetamol at the moment. Today was cheddar cheese, mustard, two absolutely massive bits of gammon, a huge piece of turkey (pic doesn't do it justice) and gherkins. it went back under the grill for a couple and was heaven, but slightly too big for my poorly gob (fnarr and indeed fnarr) and let down by poor bread but I can't get to the shop so it'll have to do. Members SuperBacon Posted March 30, 2025 Author Members Posted March 30, 2025 Subway ain't got shit on me. I am back on my sandwich bullshit big time. Kept it simple today, cheddar, ham, english mustard, jalapenos (wouldn't normally combine those two but I haven't got any mayonnaise) and it's the best thing I've had in ages. This week im thinking of doing something with pesto and focaccia. #SandwichNonce Quote
Cousin Jim Bob Posted March 30, 2025 Posted March 30, 2025 I bought a sandwich toastie maker a few weeks back and since then have proceeded on a quest to find my perfect ham and cheese toastie. I have settled on Aldi's German ham with slices of Maasdam cheese. Butter on the outside and some mustard inside. I have also put on half a stone, so the toastie maker is going in to the cupboard for a good while. Quote
Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted March 30, 2025 Paid Members Posted March 30, 2025 I didn't see it but my brother the other day made a sandwich that went as follows from the bottom layer up. Toasted white bread, potato waffle, fried egg, 2 sausages butterflied in half, fried egg, potato waffle, toasted white bread. That is dirty. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted March 31, 2025 Author Members Posted March 31, 2025 Chicken and bacon mayo at work today. it doesnt accurately show just how big this was. Bargain for £3, and the canteen employs lots of people with SEND on supported work placements and they're all great lads and lasses. Quote
Tim Healys Chutney Spoon Posted March 31, 2025 Posted March 31, 2025 That looks a banging sandwich Quote

They usually have a sandwich of the week as well which is always amazing and a bit different, and the canteen on the whole is fantastic. The hot meals are £7.50, they have 3 options a day and you get huge portions. Wednesdays they do a whole roast for that price. Also (not doxxing myself) but as a public government building anyone can go in and have lunch if they want. Its why I don't mind going in on Mondays. Quote
Tim Healys Chutney Spoon Posted March 31, 2025 Posted March 31, 2025 That's awesome and even better that the SEND crew are treated as equals and produce great quality food. We had, during lockdown, a takeaway only milkshake shop based in the town which was one of these 'Social Enterprise' things and loved it. It closed not long after things got back to normal but they reopened in Saffron Walden as a regular cafe/restaurant and now win awards left right and centre for the quality of their produce. Definitely not being patronising when I say this, but I much prefer giving those who don't given the same opportunities aa most my business as usually they do a damn sight better job because it actually matters to them and they care. TV Time Remaining Posted March 31, 2025 Posted March 31, 2025 On the very rare occasion I meet up with the lads for a night out (we're old), they'll all finish the night with a kebab or chips, I'm going into the 24h Tesco and getting loads of sandwiches. Sandwiches are immense. Quote

Which cafe is that? SW is where my mum lives so find myself that way on occasion... Quote
