Members SuperBacon Posted December 5, 2024 Members Posted December 5, 2024 I couldn't pop this in the cookery thread as well it involves no cooking, but I am sandwich obsessed at the moment. I remember in the General Election run up when everyone laughed at Sunak for saying his favourite food was sandwiches thinking "Yeah, well what's funny about that?" Sandwiches are elite. All I want at the moment is a sarnie so for dinner tonight I had honey roast ham, pastrami, english mustard in a lovely fresh baguette from the bakery. Not gonna win any beauty awards but my god it was good (don't worry I spread the butter and mustard more evenly after the pic) There is a trend at the moment for massive sandwiches which look like you can't actually eat them, and I must say this does intrigue me and there is a cafe in Southampton I've got my eye on, but you have to queue for approx 20 minutes at the mo so sod that! I'd love to go through this lot to be honest (there's a hot dog one too) A task for 2025 perhaps. I'm loving a bit of tuna mayonnaise at the moment as well, with some spring onion in the mix as that's another obsession of mine. So, what you having in your sandwich? I wonder how long it'll be before we argue about just what is a sandwich Quote

Cousin Jim Bob Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 If I have the time I do love making a tuna melt. I usually add some sliced jalapenos and sriracha to it as well to give it a wallop. My favourite when I don't have time is corned beef in cheap white bread with half a pack of ready salted crisps crushed into it. I use loads of butter and Colmans mustard as well. Takes me back to my student days. Â From your list I would love to learn how to make a decent Banh Mi. There was a place in Liverpool in one of the food markets we always used to go to that made god tier ones. Quote

Some of them are intriguing, some outright revolting-sounding. I love sandwiches, and a good one can rescue an annoying day for me. On occasion, will splash out for a Subway foot-long, usually Southwest cheese steak, but a chicken and bacon melt with meatball sauce is also amazing. One of the nicest ones I ever made for myself was Stilton, chicken, caramelised onions, Dijon mustard, and mayo, on multi-grain seeded bread. Quote
cobra_gordo Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 My current favourite sandwich is one of the Metro Rolls from Aldi, the rip off subway rolls, sliced length ways, southern fried chicken, mayo on the top, mustard on the bottom (dijon or whole grain) and then as many sliced gherkins as I can fit. I roll them up tight in some baking paper to be fancy and the few times I've taken one to work my boss always asks me to make him one next time, which I won't. Quote

Lived off this sandwich when I was a student. Bonus heart points for buttering the outside of the bread too before chucking it under the grill. Tuna's gotta be sunflower oil, too. I don't mind tuna chunks if they are going in something like a pasta bake but not for sarnies. Quote

Too much chewing, effort and inevitable jaw ache.
