One of my favourites.

When he visited Glasgow for the second time with the WWA promotion I was in the second row behind my friend Angie.

She passed a few years ago and he's  now gone too.

A PWI mag one said "Many wrestlers call themselves unique but Dabu truly is one of a kind".  So true.

I am genuinely gutted.

Just the kind of wrestler it's impossible to have now. I can remember going to Fleetwood Market and being desperate to get my hands on a dodgy ECW tape because it had Sabu on it and I'd heard about him but never seen him. And even more miraculous, he lived up to the hype! Nowadays you can see anyone in an instant, I can't imagine that kind of mystique being possible.

Sabu doing a shoot interview at that time (think this was 2004ish) seemed about as likely as Vince McMahon or The Undertaker doing one. I remember every now and then during the interview he’d point at the camera and go “that’s not on, is it?” or “is that thing recording?” Still trying to protect the gimmick in his own way. But even me being 19/20 by then and obviously knowing it was all a work, hearing his normal voice was still weird. It never got to the stage like with Undertaker after he retired and started talking to the point you never wanted to hear him talk again. Even as lapsed a fan as I am, I was still watching interview clips of Sabu right up until very recently whenever they’d pop up in the YouTube recommendations. Always found him fascinating.

"Yeah, the reason I threw up in that match was because I was smoking pot in the van and drank a bunch of Mello Yello."

Thought he was a great shoot interviewee when he opened up and one of the guys who kept his edge to the end, much like his uncle. RIP. The upcoming Dark Side episode will feel a lot different watching it now.

Nice tribute from Taz here. 

Was literally just thinking about that moment when the lights went out in the November To Remember 96, then came back on and Sabu was in the ring with Taz. Maybe my favourite standalone moment in ECW history actually. After a solid year of buildup starting with Taz turning heel on the previous year’s NTR, the crowd were dying to see it and this was the perfect tease for their eventual match at Barely Legal. Listen to those Sabu chants.

Ahh, shame to see. Always thought anyone who could bang out tunes like Hogan/Demolition was alright with me. 

A legit musician, I think most of his big hits were in the 60's/70's but I always liked this cover with Mean Gene on the vocals. Just catchy.

Rick Derringer had a co-writer called Bernard Kenny, who sang the Hogan and Demolition songs. And got fucked out of credit.

Kenny also wrote Robbie Williams, Angels.*

I don’t think there’s been better wrestling entrance music than Demolition’s. Just perfect. Fit the violent vibe of the team, name dropped the team name and both members in the opening lyrics, yet stands up as a quality tune on its own even if you never watched wrestling in your life.

I think in terms of "pop the crowd with the first few bars" its up there with the best. And for me, it is THE best.

Its actually ridiculous how good that Demolition theme is. It has everything a entrance theme should have. The open is a piss take.

Something I loved about the Demolition theme was it had a proper solo in the middle and everything, and what a solo as well. Without it playing I know exactly what it sounds like. It even does that thing that infuriates me when a song fades out and suddenly they start playing some cool new bit that I want to hear more, but the songs over. Fucking hell, an absolute hammer.

I've always thought that if I knew I was walking into a real fight, the Demolition theme would be what I'd want on my headphones on the walk there.
