Snitsky's back acne Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Very sad news about both Bill Dundee and The Butcher. It took me the longest time to realise that Sir William was Bill Dundee and even longer to realise just how big of a star he was in Memphis. Watching some of his matches, particularly with Lawler, showcased just how over, and how good, he was. I am rather partial to wrestlers who look different and The Butcher had that salty old rasslin' look that would have fit in almost any territory back in the day and made him stand out in todays climate. Incredibly sad about the circumstances of his passing and, as someone rapidly approaching that milestone, 48 is absolutely no age at all. RIP to both men. Quote

I think, if i'm being honest, I just wanted to be put out of my misery as it looked increasingly likely to be true and my brain decided the only doubt left was that AEW hadn't confirmed and it created a weird anxiety in me. Apologies for being a twat to everyone, i've just been a bit blindsided by how much this has hit me and how much I didn't want it to be true. ETID were a foundational band for me and my friebds, then to find out one of their cool members was also into this weird thing I liked (and was very good at it) gave me a sense of attachment to Butcher and this just feels so awfully cruel. It felt a bit blame based towards AEW about the news is I guess how people perceived it, but knowing you were in that almost denial like stage and seeking clarity makes sense. He was the pencil behind the weekly Mid South Wrestling run in 1984 which I genuinely hold up as some of the best episodic runs of television for any promotion ever. Don’t give it a moment’s thought, we’ve all had moments where we’ve overreacted on here and in general life - I know I have, and generally for much less understandable a reason than you. Mid South between about 84 and 86 is some of my favourite wrestling TV I think he's gone by late 85 or so because he's back in Mempho for 86, but yeah, it's why he's only occasionally actually on Mid South TV as he was doing the main booking with Watts supervising it I suppose. EDIT: Also with Bill Dundee, his daughter was married to Bobby Eaton which has that amazing anecdote of Dundee losing his shit about her dating a wrestler until she said it was Bobby Eaton and he was absolutely grand about it. Chico Torres Posted September 6 Posted September 6 It can’t be underestimated how great Dundee was as a booker for Mid South in 1984. The promotion wasn’t very hot when he took over, very Watts style big man territory that was in a bit of a lull after the JYD heyday and he got great and then relatively unknown talent from Memphis in the Rock n Roll Express, Midnight Express and Cornette, other young talent like Terry Taylor and The Fantastics and Magnum TA and basically booked it Memphis style. Great episodic tv and tons of heat as has been said by @Chili Quote
