John Anderson is someone an entire generation knew and would still reminisce about. Few catchphrases truly stood the test of time, but anyone could imitate him and everyone else would knew who it was.

He certainly made a mark that many others could only dream about.

my cousin. followed him everywhere with my Dad during his playing carrer. starting at Walsall then West Brom and Grimsby (never went to Scunthorpe tho and i was too young when he was at Walsall & Sheffield Wednesday) . unfortunately the family knew he probably didnt have long and even tho he was so ill he rang my dad to check on his prostate cancer every week. he had a great carrer as a coach but he was even more special as a man.

Well that's awful news. A superb player who had a great England career even during a mostly bad era. One of my favourite batters of all time.

Just saw his obituary linked on the front page of the Guardian and thought it can't be that Graham Thorpe, but it was.  A joy to watch play.

His 200* against New Zealand is one of my favourite test innings. One of the best players of fast bowling the country's ever produced, and the best player of Muralitharan we ever had, too.
