Well, that and Terry Venables Hazell obviously.
Factotum Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 (edited) Yeah the book is superb and a great snapshot of time for the country and football as a whole. Everything around around Italia 90 has built it into this mythical tournament, when in reality the standard was pretty terrible, but its an important moment in the development of football especially in England. Paid Members PunkStep Posted November 1, 2022 Paid Members Posted November 1, 2022 I was only 7 when it happened and not yet into football (USA 94 was my maiden World Cup), so to this day I haven't watched much of the matches beyond highlights, but everyone mentions how awful and boring the games were. So bad in fact, that it was supposedly the catalyst for the back pass rule change. That coupled with the significant effect it had on English football, it certainly has its legacy. The hype during and following the tournament is the reason I got into football.

Keith Houchen Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 What with Wasps going into administration and the Ricoh Arena up for grabs, there’s a lot of talk about SISU finally fucking off out of Coventry City Football Club. The person rumoured to be buying the stadium is Mike Ashley

Mike Ashley went to great lengths to dispute the idea that he was a Spurs fan, whilst being the owner of Newcastle. Who did Mike support? Chelsea.

Paid Members CleetusVanDamme Posted November 2, 2022 Paid Members Posted November 2, 2022 Finally! Anything short of Essien reincarnated and this delayed build hasn't been worth it.

I also cried on the telly room floor at the full time whistle against Palace when Everton stayed up last year and all she could muster out of her mouth was that I had children. Ending with the Fulfilment Centre that's at where the Ricoh used to be.
Paid Members air_raid Posted November 5, 2022 Paid Members Posted November 5, 2022 Am I the only one finding it amusing that in ITVs advert featuring action from and allusions to previous World Cups, they clumsily shoehorn in footage of Wrighty bagging in a qualifier since he never played in a World Cup?

It’s not quite the champion of the English national football team missing a header from a corner in an attempt to sell some trainers, is it
Paid Members PunkStep Posted November 6, 2022 Paid Members Posted November 6, 2022 Beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, United lose and Spurs lose. What a weekend. Would've been better had City not won a dubious penalty in added time. Granit Xhaka for Balon d'or, I'm telling you. Newcastle creeping up the table though. Are they...good? They didn't actually look good today, but were very clinical while Southampton were not, and that's what counts. Howe has done extremely well so far with what I would consider a 7-10 place side going by their personnel.
