Moderators PowerButchi Posted January 25, 2021 Moderators Posted January 25, 2021 They'll just stop it and restart the match as 2 out of 3 falls like they did the other year. Doing a bit of reading, WWE don't even do 1.6m subs internationally as of October last year, never mind domestic. Christ.
Perry Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 This will huff the fans in the UK (not that it takes much), they'll be crying about the yanks getting the Network for a fiver while we still have to pay a tenner. Infact I still remember some of them moaning on twitter when it finally launched in the UK that they were still paying 2 quid more because of the difference to the dollar at the time.

That's 1.6 million people, only from the US, and who don't have Comcast/Cox cable (which includes Peacock Premium for free) or subscribe to Peacock already. At a time around only 2.2 million Americans watch WWE on free TV. Sounds like quite the gamble for everyone involved. If it works, trebles all round. But if it doesn't, it's a lot of money for Peacock and a massive amount of damage to WWE's brand. Reading the press release, they're going on the assumption that there's a much wider potential base of people interested in subscribing to WWE than already do. So a reduced price-point, presumably lots more digital marketing and cross-marketing, and the hope that Wrestlemania has enough name value to add and keep subscribers. It'll be interesting to see if Peacock has any influence over WWE. After all, they're now paying for Wrestlemania, which means they might have thoughts about the current booking.
The Gaffer Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 What on earth can they do to attract 1.6 million new subscribers? Do you just use an already knackered Raw perhaps just as an advertising hub to push your new A show on the Network?

I must say that I find it increasingly perplexing how WWE is seemingly being signed up to big money deals left, right and centre at a time when the company has never felt less relevant to wrestling as a whole. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that WWE isn't number one (far from it). But never before have I known so many current wrestling fans to not be watching WWE, yet not lapsed from the business as a whole i.e still watching wrestling in some form, just not the industry leader. I assume the WWE is benefitting from being live sport-ish TV, which is one of the few shows that people still feel the need to watch live rather on DVR. I wonder if the decline in popularity (if it indeed is a tangiable rather than anecdotal thing) won't be felt financially until further down the line?

That's very much my point. If they think the show looks subpar, especially after one underperforms, they have a financial incentive to try and improve things.

Wouldnt suprise me if WWE pitched it all about how many social media/media followers they have, so buying it for such a price includes plenty of advertising for Peacock to all of WWE's millions of followers.

Given that the WWE's audience is made up of 50+ year olds these days, I bet that Werther's Original and the Football Pools are lining up talks as we speak.
Perry Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 It wasn't too long ago when they tried to set up a deal with Amazon. Sounded like they wanted to dump all of their live PPVs on Prime. Of course they assumed Amazon were gonna throw shit loads of money at them like Fox. I still feel sorry for BT the poor fuckers, they couldn't have purchased the rights to WWE at a worse time. You just know there's a lack of interest with WWE programming when Sky didn't even put up a fight for it.

I misread the bit where it says members can access the entire WWE and Peacock back catalogue. Interesting that you get it for $4.99 with ads or $9.99 without. I guess they are banking on all subscribers moving which I guess gives peacock a short term boost which will improve the share price I guess. But if the numbers are dipping for the current Network it is a massive gamble.
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted January 25, 2021 Paid Members Posted January 25, 2021 It's intriguing that with the Fox thing in place for Smackdown Disney didn't have a sniff around to get the WWE stuff on Hulu. I do wonder what'll happen to the network outside of the USA in light of this, unless this means we're going to get some kind of Peacock equivalent over here as well?

The talk last year was ESPN+ was going to be getting the PPV’s and possibly adding the exclusives and older PPVs to Disney+ but that obviously never happened
wordsfromlee Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 So WWE PPVs have gone from $50 to $4.99 in 6 years?
Paid Members Supremo Posted January 25, 2021 Paid Members Posted January 25, 2021 To be fair, they’ve done their best to adjust the quality of their shows to match the price.
The Gaffer Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 I wonder what PPV number would be like now if the traditional model was still the norm. I imagine anything outside 'Rumble, WrestleMania and SummerSlam would be doing sub 100,000.
