The beginning of Kane's heel run just after he lost the mask, when it turned out his perception that he was badly disfigured was in his mind and he reacted violently to anyone who said otherwise (because he thought they were mocking him) was really good, and showed that there could've been a lot done with him as this rampaging monster.

Then they stuck him in there with Shane McMahon. Because that's what you want first thing when you want to show how destructive this gigantic psychopath is: a feud where he goes toe-to-toe with a pudgy, middle-aged businessman and non-professional wrestler. State of it.

Just got reminded yesterday that despite screwing up with Lana once by putting her with Ziggler then having to backtrack because she’d married Rusev for real and nobody was buying the fake on screen coupling.... they later married her to Lashley. Must have gone down well since she’s nowhere to be seen with him now.

That’s because the ran a divorce angle once MVP became his advisor, which in turn led to the Hurt Business forming

And it was revealed at the wedding to Lashley that she had also been sleeping with Liv Morgan too. Great storytelling

Liv's insertion in to that angle was so strange, it wasn't long before she was rightly back with Ruby in the Riott squad (and having a pretty decent showing at Mania)

Or at least that's what they insinuated during the wedding. I know then had a bit of a feud but I don't recall if it involved Lana denying she'd had a fling with Liv and/or if it got proven false. But they definitely went off air on the wedding episode with it being 'true'.
