Here's a curious one for the gooners in here (your Punkys, your Factys, your Hallicksys).

Rewatching the 1991 FA Cup run, I was reminded that two years after the 91 semi final, Arsenal beat Spurs in the 1993 FA Cup semi final on their way to winning the trophy. I had completely forgotten about this, have no recollection of the game or any of the fall out, whereas I can tell you everything about 91. I'd have been 8 so football and Spurs mad so it's weird how I don't remember any of it. I'm sure I cried my eyes out at the time.

Now, Spurs fans are nothing if not a rose tinted lot and endlessly romanticise about the 91 FA Cup, and the game against Arsenal in particular. 

Do Arsenal fans do the same about 93? Is it as much a part of your 'folklore' as 91 is for us?

Is it because we won in 91 and lost in 93? (But I still seethe about 2001 so I do remember the losses as well as the wins) Is it because of the Gazza goal? Is it because Arsenal have won 57 Cups since then, but we're stuck on 8 (record breaking at the time!!!).

Didn’t big Tone score the winner in that? We were getting ready to uproot and move again in mid ‘93, my friendship group there wasn’t in to football and I don’t have a very good memory of the whole season tbh. Was that the year we went 9 league games without scoring? Might have been ‘94. Anyway. I think with it being a semi final, it’s automatically not as big a deal. I have much stronger memories of the CWC run the following year.

I actually vividly remember the 93 final (first game) as we watched it in Majorca and my Mum (a Palace fan) decided to paint her face blue and white and support Wednesday.

She was probably pissed and did it to wind up my Dad, but still, a VERY odd thing to do when you have no skin in the game.

Not especially for the most part. Obviously it's always good to beat your local rivals on the way to winning a pot, but I suspect had it been a final, and also had we not had so many FA cup wins it would have been mythologised more. I think it doesn't hurt that we were hurtling towards the back end of the Graham years and because of the way that all ended I always feel like those years are under a bit of a cloud of the whole "bung" thing. It's overshadowed somewhat by the early Wenger years too which I think also comes into play with it having less of a lofty place in Gooner history. I honestly can't recall the match at all.

Interesting. Its possibly a sad indictment of the last 30 years that the 91 semi is STILL seen as one of the top 5ish moments in Spurs history.

I think my dad was being an even bigger moody cunt than usual and wouldn’t let me stay up to watch the replay. Seeing  Andy Linighan nod one in on the BBC Breakfast sports round up doesn’t quite elicit the same nostalgia.
