That happened to me! It was incredibly awkward as it was adding loads of people I only knew from delivering their mail and parcels  who weren’t Facebook friends so I must have looked like a right Boydy.

Etymology, of course, standing for Every Thing Your Mouth Orates Learnt Over Great Years.

Show me where the capital letters touched you.

Yep. Nothing worse than someone who is so insecure they need likes on the internet from strangers.

Happened to my dad too, and due to the fact he already had multiple accounts from forgetting his password every few months I didn't think twice about accepting the new request. Got half way through a basic conversation with him before realising it wasn't him when he asked if I'd heard about some new investment opportunity and sent me a link. Was quite unnerving how easy it was to be fooled.

What makes you say that, Mr Nonce?

But yes, can't remember if it's been covered in this thread already, but that campaign is part of the batshit crazy QAnon conspiracy wasteland that's infected social media and now has links to around 10% of Republican candidates in upcoming US elections.

I keep being invited to localised SOS groups which of course I decline. One of them was public though so I had a quick nose. Full of the most bizarre and insane posts linking the most innocent things to pedophilia. Disappointed but not surprised to see more 'Mum friends' in there than I would like.

Don’t you realise that rejecting the group requests/leaving the groups/criticising vigilantism makes you a peeeeeeedo sympathiser?

"Saving our children" should surely focus on prevention, rather than secretly hoping it'll happen so that you can carry out an elaborate (and somewhat sadisto-pornographic) torture and/or execution method that they've dreamed up.

I've also noticed that other posts by the Save Our Children fanatics strongly suggest that the sentiment doesn't extend beyond British waters.

To be fair it does say save our children, they've at least tried to plan ahead to exclude anyone overseas or here but bit too dusky for thier personal tastes.

I've always been emotionally torn by these nonce hunting groups that are all over social media. On one hand, they are doing the job the police should be doing and exposing a very real danger that exists amongst us, but the reports that criminal cases are collapsing due to them making the meets public by live streaming them means that the danger is being allowed back into the community to potentially do it again makes it all a futile effort.

I just wish they would fuck off with the live streaming, and just catch them and take them to the police. Everybody is happy then(except the perv). I suppose the hunters wouldn't get their "likes" and "retweets" that they crave though...

That last bit is what it’s all about. They’re no different to the YouTubers yelling “If you think I should blah blah blah then press that like button”. They just chose potential noncing as their field instead of Minecraft or unboxing.
