Vamp Posted May 20, 2025 Posted May 20, 2025 As much as I can't stand Seth and all hid stupid nicknames, isn't he pretty much loved by a large section of fans? Quote

I get it's cool to have a shared experience by singing "whoa-oh-oh", and there's an element of recognition when you then sing "whoa-oh-oh" again, but surely when you sing "whoa-oh-oh" a third time you've hit the point of diminishing returns within six seconds of starting. Matthew Posted May 20, 2025 Posted May 20, 2025 While I can understand that his personality (or what some would deem lack thereof) is not to the taste of many on here, I don’t think anybody can say that he doesn’t put on some really entertaining matches, that are often (in my opinion at least) great. To say otherwise I think does him a disservice. Quote

He's crap! EDIT: but no seriously, he's a bad wrestler. Does loads of things - none particularly well, his matches completely lack any storytelling or real character drama, wrestles exactly the same as a heel ir face, same finisher based final stretch every time, zero believable intensity, weak offence lacking any real violence and no genuine singles classics that someone pushed as much as he is should have. I hate the Seth Rollins character, but I don’t agree with your assessment of him as a wrestler - particularly not this last part. You have his cage match with Cody, his singles matches with Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns and his bout with John Cena - they’re all excellent matches, some of which have been forgotten about because they took place in a WWE environment that was at rock bottom creatively. He might not be to your taste (heck, he’s not really to my tastes either) but he does have some excellent matches to his name. It’s just hard to care about most of them because his character work is so bad. He’s a bit like Roderick Strong for me. I can see that both are very talented wrestlers, but I’d rather watch much lesser performers the vast majority of the time because they annoy the tits off me. But, uh, yeah…he’s had a few good matches I suppose. Quote

He certainly used to be really good, his match with Davey Richards is the Flair/Steambost of our generation, but I think his average has dropped in the last 3-5 years. Quote
DavidB6937 Posted May 21, 2025 Posted May 21, 2025 Having good matches isn't his problem. Having a connection beyond good matches is his problem. That's what separates the good from the great and why so many "wrestlers" are easily forgotten. Moves after moves without any emotional investment means that it's all too easy for a fan to move on to the next match or the next spot. And while I'll likely enjoy a Rollins match when I watch it, it's rare it'll stick with me or that I'll ever want to revisit it. He is a good wrestler. He can wrestle. He's always been reliable. But he's rarely had more about him that would allow him to cement himself as one of the best because I don't particularly care about him as a character or whether he wins or loses. And that's a massive part of being at the top. Quote

Possibly, but he’s still having good matches. I’d say the problem of diminished returns is bigger for other WWE wrestlers - when was the last time AJ Styles had a standout match, for example? Quote
