WHAT PLAY YOU!? Version 3.0

Read/heard horror stories about the clinic rhythm game in Fist of The North Star Lost Paradise, but pretty much smashed through most of them getting their S rank.

Then I got to Turkish March.

Fuck that. Whoever designed that should be taken out behind a SEGA arcade, and beaten with a lead pipe.

I’m working through my backlog of games and just finished Shadow Of The Colossus. Loved the Colossi fights, hated the handling of the horse and the dodgy camera controls at times. Games like this are few and far between, it certainly made a change from every other open world, million side quests, collect a bunch of shit games that are out there. I might try The Last Guardian next if it’s on PS Plus.

Realise I'm late on this but Elden Ring - what a game. Tremendous fun and enjoying the challenge. Best thing I've played this year along with Resi 4.

I’ve recently started a second playthrough after putting nearly 300 hours into it on the first run. I was utterly obsessed with it at launch for a solid 6 months. Probably in my top 5 games now. How far into it are you?

Inscryption

Put this title under Buyer Beware. It was described to me as a "Mental. It starts as one game and then ends as another and had me using your wedding photos to create in-game content".

Sounded wild and unique in a truly meta way that only maybe Undertale has previously accomplished in terms of using your hardware. Well I got it and played hours of a difficult and randomly generated card game waiting for these big twists. The first twist is you play the same card game again with different graphics, then the second twist is you play the exact same card game again with even more different graphics.
Eventually I got sick of waiting and looked it up, and the big "use your PC files to create items" twist is maybe the final one in a pile of dull card games. Not nearly as interesting or clever as it thinks it is and the base card mechanics aren't good enough to carry it towards the big finish. I got it for under a tenner so can't complain too much but definitely don't put as much stock in the big gimmicks as I did because all that's left is a mediocre card game that I didn't even enjoy as much as playing Revolution in the casino on Persona 5 Royal.

About 22 hours and up to level 40. Haven't progressed the main story much beyond beating Margit. The scale is breathtaking, was just pissing around and found the Sirora river underground bit. Yeah, could easily see it becoming a top 5 for me too, staggeringly beautiful.

I love it so much. Only games I’ve played to completion in the last two years are Elden Ring and GoW Ragnarok. Nothing compares to the scale and combat of that game it’s like watching The Sopranos all at once then only being able to watch Sky Originals for the rest of your life.

@FelatioLips - I felt EXACTLY the same about Inscryption. I felt massively underwhelmed, given how reviews had hyped this up. I didn't enjoy it at all.

Powerwash simulator is on Ps plus. Here's hoping the boys from the keff haven't been bullshitting.

Talking of not enjoying something...am I the only person on this board who didn't like Powerwash Simulator? I found it a little boring. Maybe I need to give it another try.

I'm playing it on Steam Deck at the moment, and it's so well suited to a handheld system. Even though I already own it, I really hope it comes out on the new Switch - it's the best way to play that game in my opinion. I've never actually completed Elden Ring, when I play it I just tend to explore a bit to see what I can find, without putting much thought to my wider goals or the main story.

I played through Inscryption last Christmas and I think it's close to being really great but not quite. The first act in the Cabin is brilliant fun, weirdly meta and atmospheric. The deck builder is serviceable but has a massive exploit in it that can allow you to steamroll the game.

The second two acts are fine, the ARG aspect is the more interesting part. More worth watching a playthrough after act 1.
