Sadly, I now have 3x tix to My Neighbour Totoro tomorrow (Saturday 26th at 2pm) at the Barbican Centre. Willing to take waaaaaay less than FV if anyone is interested.

Saw this on Friday. Pretty spectacular puppetry. Take the tickets!

Gutted we can't go. To be honest I bought them for my eldest who is now away in Belgium on a school trip and my youngest is ill and it's a bit far for us to be that far away from the comfort of home.

We'll definitely still try and go, but tomorrow is a no go.

A sad PSA that it looks like the majority, if not all, of the Studio Ghibli films are leaving Netflix at the end of this month.

Something to do with distribution rights.

The Studiocanal lawsuit? I think the Netflix deal was coming to an end anyway but that couldn't have helped, I wouldn't expect to see them on another streaming site for a while now.

I assume that's what it is yeah, as I thought the Netflix deal was long term.

I suppose its just convenience and the annoyance of not having them to hand, but I probably should buy the boxset to be honest.

And this is why you don’t throw your DVDs out

Yeah absolutely. I had shitloads of them, but many, many housemoves have seen them lost due to a variety of reasons.

yeah, my Ghibli DVDs (and most of my DVDs, in fact) disappeared in the last big move.

Hang on to physical media, in general. The need for that is becoming more and more obvious every day.

This news has scared me to death as they are my comfort blanket. I put The Wind Rises on last night and just started crying, the look and the music just set me off

I hope they release some sort of big blu ray box set one day

If you’re happy to settle for DVD rather than BluRay, CEX have this available online for £40. 17 discs with everything from Nausicaä to From Up on Poppy Hill (except for Only Yesterday and Ocean Waves which weren’t available at the time it was released)

Amazon has this 10 disc BluRay set of just the Miyazaki films (upto and including The Wind Rises), but it’ll set you back nearly £140 and looks like it might be in Japanese and German only

Yep, the same for my eldest and Totoro. It gets her through bad bouts of anxiety and she does the DVD/Blu Ray etc, but often when she's watching in bed it's on her laptop so it's Netflix.

Confusingly I've just read that there is now a 3 year extension and they're not disappearing, so fingers crossed.

But yes this just shows the volatility of streaming services.

I have kept all my CDs and DVDs. When I pay for something, I want to own it and have permanent access to it, and not have some snide little scrote working for Apple or Spotify telling me I've only paid for a fucking licence.

For all the advances we make in technology, it's a bit concerning how increasingly frequent the corporate voices are trying to persuade us that everything in our lives should be for rent. Piss off.

Found that 17 disc set for cheaper on EBay, little over £12
