To be honest I bought them for my eldest who is now away in Belgium on a school trip and my youngest is ill and it's a bit far for us to be that far away from the comfort of home. We'll definitely still try and go, but tomorrow is a no go.

SuperBacon
A sad PSA that it looks like the majority, if not all, of the Studio Ghibli films are leaving Netflix at the end of this month. Something to do with distribution rights.
Merzbow
The Studiocanal lawsuit? I think the Netflix deal was coming to an end anyway but that couldn't have helped, I wouldn't expect to see them on another streaming site for a while now. I suppose its just convenience and the annoyance of not having them to hand, but I probably should buy the boxset to be honest.

Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted May 29, 2023 Paid Members Share Posted May 29, 2023 My daughter is 10 today and wanted a soot sprite theme for her birthday after recently getting into Ghibli. My wife obliged by making a load

I had shitloads of them, but many, many housemoves have seen them lost due to a variety of reasons.
Paid Members BomberPat Posted May 30, 2023 Paid Members Share Posted May 30, 2023 yeah, my Ghibli DVDs (and most of my DVDs, in fact) disappeared in the last big move. Hang on to physical media, in general. The need for that is becoming more and more obvious every day.
Paid Members waters44 Posted May 30, 2023 Paid Members Share Posted May 30, 2023 This news has scared me to death as they are my comfort blanket. I put The Wind Rises on last night and just started crying, the look and the music just set me off I hope they release some sort of big blu ray box set one day

It gets her through bad bouts of anxiety and she does the DVD/Blu Ray etc, but often when she's watching in bed it's on her laptop so it's Netflix. Confusingly I've just read that there is now a 3 year extension and they're not disappearing, so fingers crossed. But yes this just shows the volatility of streaming services.
Paid Members Carbomb Posted May 30, 2023 Paid Members Share Posted May 30, 2023 I have kept all my CDs and DVDs. When I pay for something, I want to own it and have permanent access to it, and not have some snide little scrote working for Apple or Spotify telling me I've only paid for a fucking licence. For all the advances we make in technology, it's a bit concerning how increasingly frequent the corporate voices are trying to persuade us that everything in our lives should be for rent. Piss off.
