Rees-Mogg has a tendency to try and brazen it out whenever he gets flak for his statements - never apologises, usually engages in cheap sophistry made to look expensive with fancy vocab and quibbling points of historical trivia or political procedure that don't really have any bearing on how shitty his actual words were. Also, he relies on the conditioned response of so many of the British public, the tendency to defer to privilege and class when put across with a posh accent, as well as the simple fact that this country is naturally right-leaning, and will more readily believe the unproven claims made by the Right about socialists over the actual, real, documented shithousery of the Tories.
