What is the betting they will just get it swept under the carpet, blame Corbyn for something and him to still keep his seat at the election? Keith Houchen
Half of me thinks this is a dead cat strategy but half of me thinks he actually meant it. Either way, what a cunt.
organizedkaos
They've just politicised people burning to death. You read the comments on that tweet and it's either agreement that he's a cunt or a whole bunch of people with union jack avatars and hashtag brexit names saying "yes I would do exactly what he said, it's common sense" - so to an extent it worked. The supporters have now adopted the viewpoint that the people deserved to burn to death because they didn't do the right thing (standard Tory rhetoric innit, if you do the right thing you won't need benefits/need support from public services/be put in internment camps and separated from your family/burn to death) This issue won't waver their steadfast tribal identity. It's a bit like what Trump managed to achieve with Puerto Rico (and/or, you could argue, what the public achieved by turning it into us vs. them along party lines) Edited November 5, 2019 by organizedkaos

There's an argument I've seen a lot from far-right Tory types on Twitter that the Grenfell fire was caused because of someone having a cannabis farm in one of the flats. There's absolutely no connection between the farm and the fire, but there's enough dog-whistling out there to have people believing there was - and then it becomes a case of, "oh, it was just some drug dealing ethnics", and obviously what right-thinking, proud poppy-wearing Brit cares if they die in a fire? organizedkaos
Ah yeah, but you can't quite say that (just, it's getting easier and people's statements get closer to that line). So as you said, there's these dog whistley phrases or insistence that if people don't act a certain way (a way that tends to be specifically in line with being white and rich and the associated privilege) that's why these terrible things happen to them
Paid Members Carbomb Posted November 5, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted November 5, 2019 We all know what the truth is, though. If the names of the dead in Grenfell had been mostly British, they'd have been compensated and re-housed by now. Instead we have a myriad of cunts trying to justify people burning to death and corrupt behaviour in city councils, and almost all the rhetoric is hinged on said residents' ethnicity. Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted November 5, 2019 Moderators Share Posted November 5, 2019 Ignoring the rest of the cuntery within his statement can we also appreciate that he is the kind of prick who thinks that ignoring the advice of the professionals and doing what he believes is 'common sense' when not being armed with all the facts is the obvious and correct behaviour? Pretty consistent with their approach to Brexit when you think about it like that.

RedRooster
Andrew Bridgen’s defence of Rees-Mogg is perhaps even more staggering. Between this and the doctored Keir Starmer video that the Tories have shared (I’m not going to, it’s clearly their aim here) how can anyone not look at this party and think ‘these are the bad guys’? Sadly because people who used to get away without being pulled up on racist, sexist, homophobic things feel that they are seen as bad guys now (Spoiler - they ARE bad guys) and will feel an affinity with those who are also being called bad guys. But it isn't just old racists and sexists who don't think the tories are the bad guys. Cunts do as well. [/Stew]

Many do. The issue is that they also think the main alternative is worse.
Paid Members stumobir Posted November 6, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted November 6, 2019 (edited) Kay Burley really sticking the boot in here, it’s pretty great. Burley, and Sky News in general, are normally quite favourable in their coverage of the Tories but it seems like even they’re waking up to the fact that this might be the nastiest version of the Nasty Party yet. https://mobile.twitter.com/MattChorley/status/1192013743967932416 edit: sorry, won’t embed. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted November 6, 2019 Author Paid Members Share Posted November 6, 2019 James Cleverly may be my least favourite Tory, which is a staggering achievement when you think about it.
