I actually enjoy stuff like that. Didn't know about Catherine Tate originally etc. The show's had a lot of ups and downs, pretty miraculous it's still on air now really.

I'd forgotten about the Everybody Loves Raymond re-make, "The Smiths", which also had Catherine Tate in it. Despite owning various NGO boxsets over the years, I'd never seen the pilot footage.

I like NGO. I think the first series is reallly excellent, the next couple are very good and it's been diminishing returns since Tim Vine left. It's been very hit and miss since it was remade as a family sitcom but has some good episodes, some decent guest spots and a couple of interesting concepts, like the live episode and the ones set entirely in the car. There are some dreadfully weak ones too and I don't love how much the in-laws became part of the regular cast but it's something we've stuck with, even though we watch very little actual TV these days.

Yeah, I really like the fact that they've managed to reinvent it over the years without losing too much of what made it good in the first place. They've mostly made smart decisions, although some of them were pretty much forced on them with cast leaving etc.

As with anything, you're not going in expecting the best at series 15 but there's just enough to keep you invested. Only watched 2 episodes of the latest series so far and they're utterly ridiculous but there's an odd charm about it.
