Maybe I completely missed the point but having Thatcher as some sort of comic relief really got on my nerves. Not having Midge Ure in his long grey trenchcoat and the mum randomly switching into Paula Yates with not one ounce of a costume or mannerism change was weird too. Wasn't for me at all. Quote
Paid Members Carbomb Posted January 10 Paid Members Posted January 10 Back at the Globe, in the Sam Wanamaker Jacobean theatre, for A Midsummer Night's Dream: As always, the acting is great, and the effort put in is superb - but it takes some significant liberties to take it in a direction that I appreciate the boldness, creativity and execution of, but am not entirely sure landed. It's also quite truncated; it's about two-thirds the length of the original. Like most things at the Globe, I do recommend it, but I must also add the caveat: the alteration sufficiently risky as to either wow you or piss you off. Truth be told, I'm still processing it myself, so in that regard they've done a good job, but I'm leaning towards that I'm not a fan - however, it's still a bloody good production and a lot of fun. An amazing cross of Shakespearean-style verse and language with hip-hop lyrics and diction, stellar singing vocals and beatboxing, and superb movement. Politically charged, heartbreaking, angering, funny. I strongly recommend it to anyone who enjoys theatre, and I think the hip-hop heads will particularly love it. Quote
Tamura Posted March 8 Posted March 8 (edited) Got tickets to see Shit Theatre's "Drink Rum With Expats" at Wilton's Music Hall in London. Seen two of their previous productions in Leeds and was supposed to see this show in Leeds in 2020 but it got cancelled for obvious reasons. Clashing schedules and the lack of a Leeds (or thereatabouts) performance meant I've missed out on various chances to see it since then, chuffed it's finally happening in June. westlondonmist Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Went to see The Curious Incident of the dog in the night time. Sad, hear warming but quite funny too. Never reason the book and was half expecting a story of a boy and his per rat investigating a dog murder. No, but I wasn't disappointed. Basically the story of an autistic boy, his struggles with life, family and being touched. It has one more show at Questors Theatre near Ealing Broadway Station it anybody fancies it. Tickets are £14-22. Quote

Its my absolute favourite play, and this adaptation is incredible, I loved the way they played with the fourth wall. Its not the most traditional version, but I think Wilde would have approved. Quote
