Minor PPVs that don't deserve a thread *Spoilers*

Jimmy was injured at some point right? That might have delayed things a bit with whenever he was ready to return. Or this might have been the plan all along. Who knows. To be fair it was always going to feel a bit "rushed" between Mania and now compared to the last however many years of build up. Especially with Roman taking time off etc. But I can see why they'd want to do it at War Games and the crowds are eating it up so I don't think it has impacted on anything.

The videos 40 seconds long, he speaks for a single second of it and yet it's already all I remember.

It's not so much them being on the same page, as they're obviously not fully there yet and I'm assuming it will take Heyman to do that completely, but it's just the speed in which they've got Jey and Sami involved in it again. I feel like it should've been weeks of Jimmy trying to convince Jey to help them and then the same with Jey trying to convince Sami before these big save angles, instead of Sami just being brought back into it on RAW and doing what he did tonight for example. 

 

People have been praising Triple H for getting rid of Hell in a Cell as a PPV because they shouldn’t be building towards Cell matches just because it’s that time of year, ignoring that’s exactly the case with War Games.

Haven't watched, it's still sportswashing but it's nice to see that people generally are enjoying the stuff going on with the product. As shit as awful tribal fans can be elsewhere, if all the big companies are putting out bangers be it on the ring or on the angles/promos then it subsequently feels more positive here too.

Also I'm thoroughly delighted to hear that Corey Graves is still a massive cunt.

If I may argue against this slightly.

It's not ignoring it. It's the fact that even though it may be "rushed" for some people, it's completely logical. It's a feud made for a War Games match. It's not like they've created the storyline just for War Games. The fact so many HIAC matches are completely forgotten about is down to the fact that the feuds were rarely pushed to that level or memorable unlike Punk/Drew which made complete sense.

I don't think anyone could say that Bloodline vs OGs doesn't make sense to have in War Games. It's the biggest and most sensible match up they have for a stipulation like that. The only issue is the slight timing one, and that's only for some people. As I said earlier it's not like the crowds aren't super into it. The anticipation is there.

There's a massive difference between the "just because" approach of previous PPVs and stipulations vs something like this this year.

Obviously they've been quite lucky to have some decent build ups for the War Games matches over the past few years because they've been quite group focused. It'll be interesting to see if they keep it going and if they're able to justify it. Law of diminishing returns and all that.

I'd also say the Survivor Series format itself is the conceit, the War Games elememt is just a bit of (dry) seasoning.

Forgot to mention that, besides cocking up the top rope jump that he absolutely needs to stop doing, was probably LA Knight's best match in WWE, and one of the better triple threats in recent memory.

In the tradition of The Bloodline speed of story, I assume people felt they were building up the Bloodline/OGB for next year's Survivor Series.

Once you put the Goodline into the orbit of the Bloodline, even if it's just Jimmy and/or Roman, you sort of have to speed it up a bit don't you? Everyone knows where you're going anyway, and the longer the constituent parts flirt with each other, the less impactful the final coming together is.

I've got no real issue with pacing, other than I think I probably would have preferred a clearer 'band are back together' finish yesterday.

I've seen a few people online raving about the women's tag match. Did I miss something? I thought it was mostly awful. A lot of botches. Lots of terrible timings and waiting around spots. I feel like I watched a different match to some people.

Away from my life let's talk about the Bloodline/NewlyGoodline. There is no point stringing out a reconciliation of the 4 of them plus Paul Heyman. Everyone knows that's how it's going to end, there is no anticipation to be had from the build up (Don't!)

Finished off Crown Jewel. The only things worth watching is everything involving Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.

Mad to think Kevin Steen and El Generico became two of the most important figures in a WWE boom. Keeping them from jumping to AEW when it first started will go down in history as one of the best moves in the history of this company.

I adore that The Goodline haven’t immediately became best mates again. It really hammers home the legitimacy of both Sami and Jey’s characters that they’ve neither forgiven or forgotten all the shit Roman put them through. They’re their own men now. Who gives a shit if I accidentally booted your head clean off. I wanted the big reunion, where it comes as one big surprise and everyone is a unified front, but this is way better. One of those brilliant instances in pro-wrestling where the company takes what you’ve fantasy booked and does a better version of it.

Other than Sami and Big Kev, this was a mostly skippable, non-canon show. The only other thing worth mentioning is the comedically massive Crown Jewel belts. Look at the fucking size of them! It’s like a reverse Big Show, where the belts always looked tiny whenever he held a Championship. Cody and Liv look like actual children holding them!

Shades of when Adam Cole would get his hands on the AEW World Title.

I did laugh at one of Michael Cole’s final lines though.

”Triple H celebrating too, the Crown Jewel Championship his idea, something he thought about for many, many years…”

Did he bollocks, Cole. An idea he threw out there in a panic about two months ago, when they finally provided The Saudi Prince with Yokozuna’s death certificate.

I thought the whole show stunk of 'Triple H really doesn't want to be here, but Nick Khan told him to get on with it'.

Cody v Gunther was an exercise in trying to get through the whole thing without either one of them coming out the other side in any different position whatsoever, with no damage done to their standing.

For the first Saudi show, the big man in charge wanted Yokozuna and a load of other wrestlers they remembered. Obviously Yoko being considerably dead was an issue but they threw out some NXT lad who looked like Yokozuna if you had a very limited CAW option and threw him out, possibly in the hope they'd think it was Yokozuna, or close enough to what they wanted and be happy about it. This is all from memory I'm sure someone has a more factual overview of it.
