McGregor McRetires? No. But let's talk about him anyway.

Obviously, I hope the baby comes through but this just smacks of Kavanagh trying to get Conor some positive PR in light of the recent shit we’ve all been hearing about him. Like he’s done a good deed here so he can’t possibly be the sexual deviant and monster these women are making him out to be. Classic and typical behaviour to shut down the accusers.

It's possible that McGregor has Kavanagh wrapped around his little finger.

Bas Rutten is a clever bloke who has a mind of his own. Yet, he has clearly been taken in by McGregor's charm. Just last week, despite all the stories circulating about McGregor's misdeeds, Rutten went on a podcast and insisted that McGregor is a sound bloke away from the cameras. He did add that McGregor doesn't always do himself justice, and said his behaviour towards the old man in April was stupid, but the underpinning message was that McGregor is redeemable and just needs to straighten up a bit.

McGregor can be an excellent con-man, and with his money and connections, it might be tough to convict him unless the evidence really mounts up against him.

Edit: For the record, I think he's guilty as sin of at least some of the accusations.

Apparently the original assault we heard about from December wasn’t even the first accusation against him either but whether the others were silenced with money or threats or whatever, he’s allegedly made a bit of a habit of forcing himself on women and it doesn’t seem like these last couple of women are going to be so easy to shut up.

It appears you might be correct Wand:

THE sports star at the centre of two major sex attack probes has offered one of the alleged victims a staggering €1million-plus pay-off.

The Irish Sun can reveal the huge cash offer was made to the woman in exchange for her to withdraw her allegation of rape involving “a high level of violence”. The celebrity denies brutally raping the woman at a plush hotel in south Dublin before Christmas. A Garda file on the investigation is now with the Director of Public Prosecutions, with a decision on whether or not the star is to be charged over the alleged rape expected any day now. Although the offer was made, it has been rejected. We also understand the sports personality is preparing a second offer in a bid to compensate the woman in the hope that it doesn’t go to court. The offer is not an admission of guilt, sources said.

The star was previously quizzed by gardai about the allegation but has vigorously denied the claims. A source said: “An offer of €1m has been made but it was flatly rejected by the victim who has refused to withdraw the complaint.“The file is still with the DPP and a decision is expected very soon. "The victim in this case has claimed there was a high level of violence used in this attack and the DPP will take time in examining the evidence before a decision is made.”The offer of cash was made as the star continues to be at the centre of another sex assault allegation, which he also firmly denies.

The alleged victim, in her 20s, contacted gardai in Crumlin ten days ago to claim she was “coerced” into committing a sex act on the sports personality inside a car parked in a car park. Following the alleged assault, she was brought to the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin city centre for a medical examination. She has claimed the act took place in the vehicle. Punters who were in the area on the night of the alleged attack are also set to be interviewed by officers.

Although the woman has already been interviewed by gardai, we can reveal she’s also due to be re-interviewed again by investigators over the next few weeks. There are also no plans by gardai at the moment to quiz the star but he is expected to be interviewed by appointment over the next two weeks. Since the launch of the second sex assault probe, a vehicle linked to the star and his clothes has also been seized. Once the Garda investigation has been completed, a file will be sent to the DPP.

We can also reveal that the Gardai have recovered CCTV footage of the woman walking to the car with the star’s pals. Other footage shows the woman socialising before the alleged attack. One local said: “The star was out with a number of people and this included a few young women.“From what’s being said locally, they all seemed to be getting on very well. Nobody seems to know what went on after.”

Remember the days when a McGregor press conference was highly anticipated and drew more viewers than most actual UFC shows? I didn't even know he was making an announcement this time around. Never saw it mentioned anywhere.

Isn't that because it wasn't mentioned anywhere? A McGregor press conference to announce a fight is still doing huge numbers - I think we all know that.

I honestly have no idea if it was mentioned or not, I've not seen it mentioned, and I probably wouldn't have been arsed to tune in if I knew about it. What's he going to say that's new? Fuck all. He's going to rant about how Khabib is running scared, he'll mention his booze a thousand times and he'll tell everyone how much money he has.

He isn't "must-see" TV anymore.

His fans are shitheads though. All of them. And that’s coming from someone who was a huge fan of his at one time. How anyone can still actually like him at this point baffles me. But it probably shouldn’t.

I like how a lot of the MMA media have been quiet the last few days while the sexual assault stuff had been doing the rounds. But he announces a fight, that probably won’t happen anyway, and Helwani and co all fall over themselves to tweet about that. I really think it’s all a load of bollocks and a tactic to distract everyone. He either retires or teases a comeback pretty much every time the rape stuff starts getting a bit of coverage. I don’t care what numbers he does. He’s got bigger issues to deal with and pretending it’s not happening isn’t going to make it go away. He’s under investigation for at least two sexual assaults, and maybe more. Whatever money he brings in, it’s nuts to me that the UFC are just going to crack on and promote a fight and put a guy in their cage who’s currently at the centre of an ongoing investigation of rape. Even if he were to go on to be unequivocally proven innocent of these accusations, just hold off on whacking him on posters until then. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t surprise me that the company are scummy enough to do it. Especially if they think he might be getting locked in a different cage soon. Them trying to squeeze that last bit of PPV revenue out of him before he gets sent down wouldn’t shock me or anything. But it’d still be a barmy situation. Everyone on fight week just pretending everything is fine and dandy during the scrums, weigh ins etc. The media all ignoring the elephant in the room while Conor tries to push his shit whiskey. Bizarre. Who gives a fuck about a fight at that point? Just his weirdo fans.

McG maybe pushing it a bit in Russia...

Quote

At a press conference in Moscow last week former UFC champion Conor McGregor made controversial statements about Dagestan; a Russian republic in the North Caucasus region which is home to UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. According to reports in Russia this has lead to beefed up security around the Irishman.

Russian news agency Sputnik, which is sometimes described as a pro-Russian propaganda network, reported that there was increased security at the Ritz Carlton hotel in central Moscow where McGregor was staying.

That outlet reported that the security increase happened as the hotel became surrounded by a “large group of Russian men, presumably hailing from ... Dagestan”. Sputnik further reported that Moscow police took it upon themselves to handle security at the hotel after McGregor’s inflammatory comments.

McGregor’s comments were uttered on Thursday, they included McGregor’s proclamation that he, “wouldn't go to Dagestan to take a s—t.” McGregor also attempted to drive divisions between people from Dagestan and the neighbouring republic of Chechnya, stating that, “every Chechen man knows” that “it’s in the nature of the Dagestani man to run”.

He really needs to be careful with that shit. Nurmagomedov obliterated him in the Octagon for that. The way things are on the Caucasus at the moment, that's the most restrained possible reaction he can expect. The idiot could end up dead if he carries on throwing that kind of talk around like it's nothing. Bad enough doing that in Brazil.

Trying to stoke the flames of geopolitical tension and animosity in a part of the world that he knows little about, and that needs that kind of shit even less is scandalous. All for what? To try and promote a fight? To earn himself millions of dollars? Insane.
