A bit like when they occasionally give away a major result on the cover/sleeve of their DVDs.

Surely most regular fans would be well aware of what took place at that certain event before the DVD artwork becomes available anyway. If a DVD sleeve which gets released about a month later spoils it for some then they can't be that bothered about keeping up with the latest storylines anyway by the sounds of it.

But if you're a casual or a new fan who is just buying the DVD for a few hours of entertainment then the main event has been spoiled.  Admittedly it's not exactly the same due to wrestling being such a niche product, but it's like buying the Breaking Bad DVD boxset and the cover picture showing exactly what happens at the end.

RE: Spoiling wins on DVD covers. It's such a backwards practice. You wouldn't see the front cover of Toy Story 3 showing all the toys on the front porch with that mexican kid. In fact the only time spoilers on a DVD cover works is in porn.

Pretty common practice these days, this was the best example I could think of.

That fucking "Facebook Trending" thing gets me so often, as it did this morning.

I avoid Twitter because I follow a few wrestlers/wrestling personalities on there, but always forget about Facebook as I have any wrestling stuff on there, so don't think about it.

Bloody Twitter got me this time. I avoided going onto it because of the obvious spoiler potential, but I needed to check the list of posts I'd favourited as I use that like a bookmarking feature and one of them had a link I needed for work. I carefully looked back through my browsing history to recall that I could directly type "https://twitter.com/favorites"to get to that page and not see any new tweets.

And of course right beside it is the bloody list not just of trending topics but Twitter's explanation of what they refer to.

EDIT: Have just discovered that on Chrome the answer is: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/hide-twitter-guff/ebjehgoicideedhhnfjhfaidlpdhofod?hl=en-GB

Exactly. Imagine if the Breaking Bad boxset had an image of Bill Roache wiping Walter Jr's blood off of his katana as he stands over his decaying corpse? Would totally waste dozens of hours.

I bought a cheap random wwe ppv on dvd from cex a few months before the network started, I didn't even look at the match listing on the back because it was only a couple of quid and I fancied a surprise PPV. Unfortunately after all my effort to not know what was coming the DVD menu screen was a picture of Randy Orton holding the title aloft

There's no need for it, even if most fans know the outcome there will always be people picking up wanting to see it fresh

A bit like when they occasionally give away a major result on the cover/sleeve of their DVDs. That's a fucking stupid thing to do. The main event for example could be Randy Orton defending the WWE title VS Daniel Bryan, then on the back you have a massive picture of Bryan holding aloft the title in celebratory fashion.

I don't think it matters on DVDs. Who is buying a DVD of Night of Champions anyway unless they've got a relative in the crowd or they collect every WWE release no matter what? It's not like a TV show that people recommend without giving much away. Anybody walking into HMV willing to hand money over for WWE shows already knows full well what happened on them, or is the nan of someone who does.

To be fair thats not the case for new fans looking to catch up on some old stuff

I remember when I first got into wresting and was buying videos of PPVs before I started watching, one that sticks out was Survivor Series 1998 - never seen it, heard about it etc, looked on the back of the case...and theres The Rock stood with the title aloft wth Shane and Vince. Ruined the whole bloody tournament that, really frustrated me so I get the annoyance with DVD and Video sleeves etc, just no need.

All the spoilers I get are my own fault. I avoid social media like the plague, and I'm still too cheap to do my wrestling-revision through either the network or DVDs - boredom is the biggest spoiler for me, when I'll have nothin going on for a couple of mins so I check some news site, I never read straight-up results spoilers but I still end up spoiling a lot of potential surprises online. I knew that Charlotte, Becky and Sasha were at that Raw the other week when I'd have shit my pants if I'd kept it a surprise. Ditto I 'knew' who was at Battleground (Sting didn't show up though)

It used to be that the stuff I checked on news sites hardly ever actually happened but now it is starting to play out the way it says it would on articles so I've decided I need to step away from those speculation type sites
