I have found this home brewing lark a great way to deal with my depression and anxiety, every step relaxes me. My current brews are a porter I made with honey and added most of a bottle of rum, and an American style whitbeer with 8lb of cherry added. The porter is conditioning (and is nice after just a week in the bottle) and the whitbeer is fermenting. Any other home brewers here? Quote
Rey_Piste Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 I have done it once with one of those all in one kits where you just heat the water up and add a pre-prepared packet to make the mash. I followed all the steps, but sealed the plastic bucket which then spilled over and whilst left open grew a mold on it. I do want to try it out again, I am lacking the space to do it in my flat. My family have worked in breweries for the past 25 years, so I’ve grown up with it. 5 months ago I packed booze in. It took its toll and messed my up unfortunately. I was never bothered about not being able to get drunk after giving up, my problem was that I knew I’d miss the taste of great beers. I’ve been searching for decent alcohol free craft beers for the past 5 months. Trying and sampling my way through everything I could try and I must say, I think I’ve finally found the best alcohol free beer on the market (for me). If you like Neck Oil by Beavertown, this is a very similar taste. Mikkeller - Weird Weather. It is absolutely fantastic. It’s 0.3% so technically alcohol free (anything below 0.5% is technically alcohol free in the U.K.) I seriously believe that this is probably in my top 5 beers of all time. Quote

Been home-brewing for about a decade now. Love it. @Kaz Hayashi Not had that. The issue with Mikkeller I find is that there's not much consistency with what you can get and when you can get it. I was a big fan of their 'Drink'in the sun' which was a similar low ABV beer. Bought 3 or 4 from a specialist bottle shop and never seen it since. Edited December 10, 2018 by Chunk Quote

The cherry whitbeer on the other hand tastes terrible- luckily the guy I made it for likes sours so hopefully this still works. Just started fermenting an orange and coriander whitbeer. The first was I Speak For The Trees, an IPA from Arbour in Bristol. Didn’t really taste like a proper IPA as it was much thicker and was bordering on a wheat beer. Almost like Blue Moon. Very, very good. Second was this: Quirky? Yes. Kitsch label? Yes. But very lovely? Yes. Honestly, it was a delight to drink. Not many ale houses stock this but it was so, so nice. Quite thick again but the mild strawberry taste made it go down well. Quote

Luckily living quite close to them means we get most of their stuff round here and their core beers are available in most shops. Can't go wrong with them. They did a Home Alone themed beer last year that I can't remember the name of which was lovely. Quote
