Paid Members Carbomb Posted February 16, 2014 Paid Members Posted February 16, 2014 I usually go to the Glassblowers' Arms, which is awesome, like Chris B mentioned, the Duke of Argyll, which is on the same street, but my favourite pub in the whole of London is (as Frankie Crisp will attest) The Bricklayers' Arms in Fitzrovia, just off Tottenham Court Road. It's not a stand-out pub with gimmicks or anything - it's just a quiet, comfortable, traditional pub with a nice atmosphere and a good selection of decent, cheap beers. Aldermanbury Square is difficult, because it's in the City of London - I don't know of any Sam Smith's pubs in that area. That said, the stupidly-named "Ye Olde Watling" on Watling Court is only about five, maybe ten minutes' walk from you; despite the name, they've got a decent selection of beers, and have a pretty decent food menu too. They had a really tasty Iberico pork burger when I last went. The other advantage to where your new office will be is that there are lots of old-style city taverns in winding alleys and so on; it's quite fun to explore, as you can uncover some hidden gems. Heading straight from work tomorrow to the National Winter Ales fest in Derby then stopping over and visiting a few of the many great pubs Derby has to offer. For me from my experience/what I've read it's one of, if not the best places for Ale we've got, spoilt for choice in quite a small area. I'd say it ranks as my favourite that I've been too. The Wetherspoons there is a step above the norm too, more choice, lots of local stuff and even a beer screen! Quote
Dr.PeterVenkman Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Our local has shut this month so we've pretty much all moved to the pub across the road, no Theakstons so I've started drinking Marstons New World, belting drink although according to my mate its a 'fucking poofs drink' as it has a citrus taste, highly recommended though if you like pales ales that taste a bit like flat tango (I do actually mean that in a good way somehow) Quote

Genuinely spoilt for choice there, helped by the fact that many of the local breweries are top notch/own pubs. Castle Rock, Magpie, Navigation etc. Quote

Its the only festival I don't need to worry about trains for. I'm helping out this year, set up, take down and ad hoc stuff one day. It will be interesting to see it all from the other side. Having seen the last few months of work in organizing I've got a new level of appreciation for them. Quote

Halves are better for festivals I reckon as it makes the beer seem fresher and I seem to also get more pissed off halves than pints. Probably as you dispatch a half in 2 to 3 sips compared to seeing off a pint in around 8 or so. Quote
Paid Members Tommy! Posted August 27, 2015 Paid Members Posted August 27, 2015 Half pint glasses are often oversized and they fill past the line, as they are over cautious of under filling. I'm in the half pint camp with Butch, you get to try more than double than if you have pints as you do drink then exponentially quicker than a pint and on gravity the beers keep life better than over a pint.
