Let's try and make a Saw film that's not the absolute dregs. Shite. Not scary. One very gory bit. In its defence, it was the exact amount of time I needed to kill. Now that's a ringing endorsement. Right, I'm after taking a pop at the twist: Is it your man Logan?
Paid Members Scott Malbranque Posted October 26, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted October 26, 2017 (edited) Blatantly obvious from the trailiers. I was hoping the Spiereg Brothers would prove me wrong, as I love their previous. The Saw franchise was one of my guilty pleasures on the back of how much I loved Saw 2, but I saw that twist coming a mile off . I'll go see it and all that, but I'm not as arsed about it as I thought I would be. Maybe it's being 38 years of age, too... Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 27, 2017 Author Paid Members Share Posted October 27, 2017 I stopped watching them at Saw 4. I can't honestly remember a single moment in Saw 3 or 4.

WyattSheepMask
I didn't mind Saw so long as you didn't take it as seriously as the filmmakers wanted you to. The first in particular loves the smell of its own farts but it was at least different to other horror that was around at the time. And reading up on how it was done on the cheap and filmed as quick as what it was, it has a certain charm to it. James Wann has definately made better films since it though, apart from Dead Silence, that was shite. If it had stopped after the third film, it wouldn't be so bad, but they kept churning them out every year until it stopped making money, the 7th one was rewritten to incorporate the last two in the series after the 6th film didn't perform well at the box office. The franchise does definitely has ideas above its station, and spawned a fuckload of other shit trying to one up it, Hostal being one of the worst things to come around due to Saw's success. At least they had sense to stop at three with those Edited October 27, 2017 by WyattSheepMask
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 27, 2017 Author Paid Members Share Posted October 27, 2017 (edited) Probably the worst film I watched that was influenced by Saw was this piece of shit called WΔZ. Great cast, fucking awful film. Still, not often you see Dennis Pennis and one of the ones out of So Solid Crew in a torture porn film, so there is that. Keith Houchen
The only decent thing about the Saw franchise was when old school insomnia cure Mike Castle was making out how they were some Wagnerian epic that had been planned for about 7 films with the story arc already set in place. Paid Members chokeout Posted October 27, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted October 27, 2017 I remember that! He really wasn't having any of it when people started pointing out the second one was an old script that they just shoe-horned some Saw references into to rush into production.
NoUseforaUsername
The song from the Jigsaw trailer fits perfectly, and is a great song too.

Jolly good. Went to see The Death of Stalin. Very funny as expected, great cast, Jason Isaacs is the best. Very similar to In The Loop though, not sure Iannucci could sustain this same style over another political comedy without it becoming repetitive. Casting Stalin as a Cockney gangster was a cracking idea though.
Paid Members ColinBollocks Posted October 30, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted October 30, 2017 Aye. Cockney Stalin is bloody brilliant. All the cast were really on point. The highlight, however, was when Stalin collapses and a person next to me said to their mate "OH! So he did die". The Death of Stalin.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted November 4, 2017 Author Paid Members Share Posted November 4, 2017 Murder on the Orient Express was exactly as pointless as you think it is if you've ever watched a single Agatha Christie adaptation. Daisy Ridley was great though, as was Josh Gad, but Michelle Pfeiffer was the stand-out. Johnny Depp needs to just fucking go away though. Having thought about it, I don't think I've liked him in anything except Ed Wood.
