Kids that can't be arsed to learn to work trotting out the same cliched lighttube spots, barbed wire boards and cutting themselves up to get cheap reactions? That's the shitty garage bands that decide they're going to be a punk band because it'll cost them less in gear.

First off that was a great post :)Secondly those shitty garage punk bands are great. They make some of the most honest and raw music there is. Some of the best tunes I've heard have been made by people with limited musical talent and the cheapest equipment they can findbut that is the beauty of it though I get just as much enjoyment if not more out of seeing really sweaty suplexes that look like they fucked someone up than I do out of seeing Angle deliver a perfect one. It's that Lo-fi, amateur and mistake riddled aesthetic combined with the freedom to do whatever dangerous spots they are stupid enough to do, that makes Deathmatch wrestling what it is. (occasionally you will get great wrestler who does Ultra Violent stuff) It's all about cheap reactions and the gimmicks. Table and Lightube spots are like cum shots so in a way you are right it is like porn but also has elements of performance art. Not in the sense of building a great match with psychology but more in the "I'm angry at the world and the only way I can vent this is by publicly mutilating myself" sense.......I think I could argue a case that deathmatches could be held in galleries.

No you couldn't."Ladies and gentlemen, next to the new Damien Hirst exhibition you will find two fat rednecks stabbing eachother in the face with broken glass for $25."

Wrestling is an art with hundreds of interprtations. Many people would struggle to see Damien Hirsts sawn in half cow as art. Or stuff at the Tate Modern like the crack in the floor or the slide they had. Next to the sawn in half whale and the unmade bed are two rednecks slicing each other up sounds far more plausible. Wrestling is an art and like it or not deathmatch wrestling is an interpretation of that art. No wrestling is good for you, even the most pedestrian moves are highly dangerous. A Wwe superstar has killed in the ring with a flapjack. If you are saying this should be banned where do you draw the line?

I never said deathmatch wrestling should be banned.Stormy Weathers said he could argue that deathmatch wrestling could be held in art galleries. It's a ridiculous statement. I don't see how anybody could deny that. Deathmatch wrestling is fucking trashy entertainment, nothing more and nothing less.Personally, I like some deathmatch stuff and have nothing against the deathmatch wrestling scene. But comparing it to performance art is just stupid. At least Richie Freebird is honest and coherent about why he loves it and doesn't spout shite like "Next to the sawn in half whale and the unmade bed are two rednecks slicing each other up sounds far more plausible."

He's a tit looking for a reaction from the likes of you, so of course he'll say that. And he's succeeded admirably btw.I'm not sure who the biggest idiot is. Stormy Weathers, or the tit stupid enough to bite to his nonsense.

My point was basically what is art and what could be considered art? To me wrestling is an artform it maybe trashy entertainment but an artform none the less. The gallery stuff is bollocks to wind people up. But if you agree wrstling is an art then deathmatch style is a style of that art no matter how trashy. Or is there no art to wresling?

Someone rescue this thread please

From what? The discussion about deathmatch wrestling?
The same old arguments from the same old people are getting very tiresome. Its turned into people posting bollocks just to get other people to post more bollocks. This thread thrives when its discussion about a recent deathmatch show and looking at reviews etc, not defending it to people who in reality couldnt care less about it anyway.

I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about, to be honest, but ok.This is a thread about deathmatch wrestling. People are discussing whether it's art and why it could be considered as such. I've actually found this far more interesting than looking at people with hideous injuries even though Richie's reviews are really well put together and written. There have been several great debates in this thread, actually, all of them well reasoned and intelligently debated. No-one is baiting anyone here and I don't recall this debate cropping up in this thread before. I'm interested in people's views on the scene, as I think many others here are, rather than the content of the scene, so your last simple point is completely wrong.I think what I'm basically trying to say is why don't you just come back when the nice man posts some pictures for you to look at again?
