Vamp
Vince went "why are their no characters. Fill the roster up", so they had all sorts knocking about. Â This really needs to happen again. I loved the mental period of SmackDown (even though I might be the only one) where they had people with cartoon gimmicks.
King Pitcos
I'd love to see Carlito back. Not too fussed either way about MVP, he never caught on with me like I kept expecting him to. MVP would too easily just be another one of the directionless midcard. Carlito could as well, of course, I just like him more.
Shovanist Pig
Surely the most likely bods will probably be Carlito, MVP, Morrison and Shelton Benjamin? Â I'd take this man over all of them boring bastards though. Loki
If they're looking for reliable old hands, Bob Holly and Billy Gunn would fit the bill. Both would be good in tag teams with younger wrestlers, plus Gunn is a pretty recognisable face to longtime fans. Â Â
Paid Members air_raid Posted December 9, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted December 9, 2012 When was the Juniors division and Palmer Cannon? Was that roughly the same time in 2006? Paid Members ShortOrderCook Posted December 9, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted December 9, 2012 If Tatanka, Pirate Burchill, Mexicools, Boogeyman and the rest were all inspired by the USA network 'Characters Welcome' campaign...why the hell were they all on Smackdown? Smackdown has never been on USA has it?
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted December 9, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted December 9, 2012 (edited) Smackdown's writing crew might have had more imagination, probably. Raw still had Eugene, Daivari, Snitskey, Kane, those two frenchmen with the poodle, Trevor Murdoch and Mable in a dressing gown. Raw had plenty of freaks knocking about. Dirty Eddie
No, Smackdown has never been on the USA Network so I'm not sure what the direct link there is? Â As for the idea in general of bringing back some solid older names, I'm all for that. I liked the theory when they re-signed D-Lo and 2 Cold Scorpio a few years back too, but they did nothing of note with D-Lo and Scorpio didn't even make it to TV which was a shame. Â I don't know if I'm sold on the all the names mentioned though. Â MVP would be a great shout. Solid worker and a strong promo with an instantly identifiable look. He was a late starter too, so it's not like he's got 20+ years on the clock. Â I liked Carlito and he looks great these days, but I have to wonder if that would last. I can't imagine his Dad is drug testing him much these days! Worth a shot though, as he's another guy like MVP who at least had a character of some sort and I'll take that over the larger muscles any day of the week. Â I'd like Billy Gunn back for a last run with the Outlaws, but that's about all. Him and The Road Dogg on one last decent tag title run and then a solid putting over of a new team would be great for the tag division and the fans, but I never liked Billy on his own. Billy G, The One Billy Gunn and The Ass Man were all a bit shit really. Isn't he another one who's mentioned that it's steroids pretty much "holding him together" these days too? Sure I remember that from a shoot of his. Â I don't want Big Daddy V back thanks. It seems a bit weird to me that people seem to love the idea of him coming back, but the notion of Brodus Clay working pretty much the same gimmick (stereotypical "Monster" wrestler who squashes people) is seen as a shit idea? If they want that gimmick around, give it to the younger, fresher wrestler who'll be around for years, not the one who's a heart-attack waiting to happen and who's always failed to get over as anything other than a mid-carder. King Mabel was a total waste of everyone's time. Â I'm actually racking my brain for more possible names but it's not going very well. There is a distinct lack of likely candidates out there these days, with so many veterans either tied up with TNA or frankly just past-it now. What's Mark Jindrak up to these days? Still down in Mexico? Steiner wouldn't pass the tests. Val Venis was rubbish in TNA a few years back. Goldust only got shit-canned a while back. It's a bit tricky! Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted December 9, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted December 9, 2012 No, Smackdown has never been on the USA Network so I'm not sure what the direct link there is? The direct link is obvious that if the company's direction is to have a bunch of characters on their flagship show, to also put a load of unique gimmicks on the opposite channel so when they are looking for people to bring to Raw either through a daft or if there are injuries or if they want new faces on the show, they have a load of TV ready characters to move brands. Paid Members SpiritOfTheForest Posted December 9, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted December 9, 2012 Gangrel is someone I'd absolutely love to see back. He was always one of my favourites. Though the last time I saw him was when he and Viscera attacked the Undertaker in 2004 or something so I've no clue what shape he's in these days. Paid Members ShortOrderCook Posted December 9, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted December 9, 2012 (edited) Brian Kendrick? Wouldn't be that surprised if they thought about Haas and Benjamin, can't see them doing much though. Â Big Bossman is probably due another run soon. Moderators PowerButchi Posted December 9, 2012 Moderators Share Posted December 9, 2012 Chris Masters should definitely get the call. If he doesn't then there is something wrong. Like to see Goldust back, and maybe have Fit Finlay work part time as well.

I still think it's a bit strange that Smackdown got all the weirdo characters though. If it was a USA Network inspired idea you'd think they focus it there, not on an opposing network. The weird characters turning up on Smackdown was all down to that Palmer Cannon bloke, which was a dig at Smackdown's network (UPN) who had recently taken issue with some of Smackdown's content.  They'd been doing oddball characters and gimmick-heavy wrestlers like Eugene, The Hurricane, Big Gay Rico, La Resistance and Snitsky on both shows way before the "Character's Welcome" thing started in mid 2005. LEGIT
El Matador is going to be facing Mantaur. What a brilliant idea! Santana won. Sounds fun. Had the El Matador trunks on and Mantuar has his head painted. No Mantaur mask sadly   Don't think anyone saw this happening in 2012.
