I know that some people are on alert to potential sensationalism with this and the fact that Netflix are streaming it. But I think the family fully backing it and being able to get to tell their story is the key factor here. We do need to talk about cops and bodycam footage and how they may manipulate situations to suit their agenda but I don't think this was the case here. It's a very good film. Surviving Ohio State Similar to above, one that is difficult to get through as it should be. Some really important points about winning above all costs and men calling out sexual abuse, and just very well made overall. My Mom Jayne Mariska Hargitay made a documentary about her mother, Jayne Mansfield, but it ends up becoming an investigation of her wider family history. I sometimes don't really like these personal family documentaries but this one has broader points to make about fame and being the kid of an icon. I hope she considers making more films, this is really impressive. Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers One of many Aileen Wuornos documentaries. Pretty unfocused on what exactly it wants to be about but strongest when talking about police misogyny and the treatment of sex workers by cops. There's enough good stuff here. Quote

DavidB6937 Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Take That (Netflix) No, I don't know why either. Brain was dead after work last night and it popped up and that was that. As someone who's had an interest in The Beatles and everything surrounding them, it's probably the closest we've had to a modern day equivalent, so from a music industry perspective it's an interesting tale. Nothing particularly new or revelatory, considering most of it was archive footage and comments, but as someone who hasn't seen most of the clips it was interesting enough seeing their journey documented. Especially when it comes to the early formative years. There's also something quite endearing about their story and what they all went through together and separately. You'll never convince me that Gary Barlow isn't an absolute bore, but you can't help but feel bad for him when the fame is gone and he's over-eating and whatever else, despite his clear ego in the early days. Robbie obviously had his own demons which led him to lash out a lot in public so it's a minor miracle they all got back together. And now I've just got Take That songs stuck in my head which I suppose is my fault. Quote

Social media platforms need to do better at removing their content, and stop pushing algorithms to funnel people towards their shite, but it's just utter drivel, and that's what makes it extra depressing.
