Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted September 23, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 23, 2011 (edited) Ring of Hell actually wasn't that bad but, as somebody pointed out to me, it's all single sourced. Not good. Kevin Nash is quoted as a source at one point and then slagged off for being a hypocrite and a liar later on. Its a right kick in the guts/balls when you read stories like the one where Scott Hall pissed on Benoits boots and they were using it as an example of bullying or something. It was a well known story that Hall was pissed off his face and Benoit wasnt exactly crying about it. Benoit might have shaken his head or laughed about the state Hall was in, but for the amount of times I heard that one, I never heard about it being a bullying tactic. Benoit and Hall were on good terms. Hall's nickname for him was "Dynamite". Benoit was on a different level to the opinion the likes of Hall and Nash had for Guerrero, Malenko and Jericho. Benoit was always head and shoulders above the rest. Even in WCW, everyone knew he was a world class worker. Richie Freebird
As right as people are about moving to more coverage of the alternative styles would alienate the WWE fan buyers (which, lets face is
Paid Members SpursRiot2012 Posted September 23, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 23, 2011 Basically, it's like the author watched a bunch of shoots and read some autobiographies and some online interviews and drew his conclusions from that. As I see, it was readable, but a) Not much there I hadn't heard before and b) the stuff I hadn't heard before wasn't well sourced and, as you say, in some instances stuff directly contradicted itself. Paid Members bbabba Posted September 23, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 23, 2011 i think that currently the best/funniest thing in PS is the dvd reviews, written by oliver hurley i think. always tremendously entertaining
sgmilne
The thing is, you just know what the next issue is going to be about. Â He'll moan about Cena beating Del Rio, and while I think that's valid he'll take it to the extreme. Â He'll also moan about Mark Henry beating Randy Orton, because in his mind, Mark Henry is the same guy who was a midcarder for years. And because he's not a 'WurkR8z' Midcarder who finally made it big like Benoit or Guerrero, he'll be talking about how it's so bad that the WWE have to rely upon Henry and that it shows how bad they are at making stars etc. Â All the while, he'll ignore that most people seem to be of the opinion that Henry's win was well booked (as has his push overall), his promo after the match was bang on and that him winning the belt is a refreshing change. Â That's the problem with him - he has his favourites and he just won't budge. I personally thought Edge was tiresome. Â Also, another issue I have is the way there's no continuity with articles. You can *almost* get away with having the Edge articles spread over a number of months with gaps in between, but leaving out the '5/10/15 years ago' article means that month is completely missed out forever. That article actually meant something, while I doubt many people care about house show results.
King Pitcos
From Fin's Twitter: Â PowerSlamMag Findlay Martin We're receiving a lot of e-mails about Night Of Champions which include words like "flabbergasted", "baffled" and "disheartened". Â More feedback to NOC at PS. One reader called the show "utterly dismal", another stated that he was "totally disillusioned". Â He must be writing these letters to himself, unless PowerSlam has spawned a mass of spackers who describe things using FinMartinisms. The Cum Doctor
Did they get any letters saying that it was actually a pretty good PPV, which is what it actually was?
Paid Members SpursRiot2012 Posted September 24, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 24, 2011 Yeah, I'm with The Cum Doctor on that. Although, please don't quote me.. Paid Members marc2j Posted September 24, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 24, 2011 I'll still pick up the mag, but had to stop following on Twitter. His Cena bashing fucks me off no end.
David
I've not bought the thing in years, although I do flick through it now & then in a shop. It just smacks of someone who thinks they're too cool to actually like wrestling, but still watch it anyway. Â I enjoy watching wrestling now more than ever before because I'm avoiding the mags, the newz sites and a fair chunk of the threads on this forum. Â Guys like Paul Heyman, Scott Hall and Nash are lying evil pieces of shit one minute then when he wants to attack WWE their quotes become valuble sources of information. Â Whats makes me sick about him is that in Ring of Hell he basically describes the Pro-Wrestling industry as a "Human Meat Grinder" and portrays the Wrestlers as marks willing to kill themselves for a bit of fame. Â Then he's in Power Slam bitching about how Vince McMahon has nothing new and fresh happening coming out of Wrestlemania 25. Â Surely if Pro Wrestling's as evil as he makes out it is in his book the biggest problem is that Wrestlemania or any other pro wrestling events take place at all? Â I didn't bother picking up last months issue (about the third issue I have missed since 1997) and I didn't miss it one bit.
Paid Members Ronnie Posted September 24, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 24, 2011 I wouldn't be suprised if it's the workrate perverts who are keeping the rag going now because I honestly can't see casual fans putting up with Fin's moaning for very long. I can see PS as being the tool by which casual fans become molesters, actually. It's an easy way to give a casual fan a little bit more knowledge than their peers and a window into a world that no-one else sees. If their group of friends chat casually about wrestling then one of them can easily gain a little bit of status by revealing these things that the others don't and parrotting the opinions of the specialists. Â This is pretty much what happened to me. Cripes, I remember having moved abroad and writing a letter to a friend (who was the very embodiment of a purely casual fan) to tell him of the impending demise of the WWF because the two writers who scripted all of the WWF's success had escaped to WCW. Absolute garbage, of course, but I was repeating the PS line (or, more likely, the Wrestling Post's).
Tommy Atkins
If it was just workrate fans buying it, it wouldn't be being sold in WHSmith etc. I'm fairly sure that the vast majority of its buyers are young children or their parents.
