TibBo Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Evanescence would be a random choice considering it's been 23 years since they did anything of note? The Rasmus and Crazytown to co-headline Quote

CTXRussomark Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Those three seem to be the common consensus and Evanescence would fit the Nu Metal nostalgia spot that Korn and Limp Bizkit have filled the past couple of years. I kind of hope it is as we're skipping Download for the first time in a while next year and I wouldn't be bothered about missing any of them (Blink especially). Quote

The Rasmus and Crazytown to co-headline They've did a successful arena tour this year. Download is now focused on middle aged punters, their pricing dictates that that's the demographic that can afford £9 pints & £18 burgers. A standard weekend ticket is now around £350 with parking etc on top. As the old guard of headliners like Aerosmith, Metallica, Maiden, Kiss et al all start bowing out they're replaced by the likes of Korn & Limp Bizkit. Nostalgia acts for 45yr olds. Evanescence ticks that box perfectly. We went to every Download from 2009 to 2019 & watching the change from a cool genre fest to a massive cash cow was tangible. Last time I went it felt like you were just getting rinsed at every opportunity. Fuck Live Nation! However, the 2000 Trees announcement yesterday has brightened up my week no end..... Quote
The Gaffer Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago (edited) I'm not a fan but the annual "What, really?" of acts like Evanescence being announced for Download of all places is strange, to me. Bands like this have enormous nostalgia appeal, but also their top few songs have never left rock/emo/alternative nights in most major cities, and teenagers treat them as if they came out yesterday. Pretty sure the second stage space was overflowing when they played it a few years back. They're the most Downloady headliner ever. Edit: And yeah to what @Dead Mike was saying, obviously a major festival's going to be an exercise in commerciality to some extent, but there was a threshold Download passed in the last few years where you got that sudden festival awareness that you were a walking ATM. That and the language of everything turning into this aching, marketing taskforce slew of 'Download Family', 'Download Experience' etc. I binned it at that point. TibBo Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago It is interesting to see how the festivals have slowly developed over time... Download is now sort-of what Reading/Leeds used to be with the line-ups. Reading/Leeds is now aiming at the Radio 1 Big Weekend crowd. Quote
Ironic Indie Lad Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Announcing Ozzfest but with no bands is a strange move. I wouldn't be buying a ticket to a fest with no line up unless it was incredibly reliable. I've heard rumours from people usually in the know that its being headlined by Limp Bizkit. Quote
WyattSheepMask Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago (edited) The ‘early’ Ozzfest tickets went on sale this morning. £180 for ‘Gold Circle Standing’, £120 everywhere else. Way less than I expected with how things have gone pricewise in the last few years. Obviously nothing like the value you got for £33 in 2001, but I was expecting it to be way more than that Genuinely no idea who’ll headline it but I reckon Yungblud is almost certainly to play as it seemed he was the most affected by Ozzy’s passing last year, seen as he managed to get front and centre for pretty any coverage relating to it. Apartment 26 - that was Geezer Butler’s son’s band wasn’t it? As for Download headliners - unless on of them is Ghost I’m not bothered. It’s not a festival that appeals to me anymore, most bands I like tend to get stuck in one of the tents these days Edited 9 hours ago by WyattSheepMask Quote

My only hope is because he runs his own festival and has been performatively speaking out about gig prices he'll not be on this. If he is featured prominently it would need to be a much better line up for the rest of it to compensate or I'll be passing. He's the drizzling shits. Quote

Paid Members I Bent My Wookie Posted 7 hours ago Paid Members Posted 7 hours ago Just in to point out I have to agree with @Dead Mike (who I will no doubt see again next year and have the yearly conversation of "hey I know Santa Claus") that Trees announcement is blessed. There's a lot of smaller acts I've just managed to see in one go rather than spread out through the years, the headliners and semi headliners are brilliant for me and there's 2 headliners still to come plus the Wednesday set. It's looking to be a great festival if DL doesn't end up being so. Quote
Merzbow Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Go see my pals in Flesh Creep at Trees, I think I've seen them more than any other band in the past 6 years or so as they were all over the Brum hardcore and punk scene but they're class. Quote

Paid Members Accident Prone Posted 4 hours ago Paid Members Posted 4 hours ago I'll be at Trees too, I missed this years due to back issues (of 'What Car?' magazine) so I'll be fucked if I miss next years. Nice little announcement, I don't like the poster to be too full of bands I want to see because that just ensures you're going to have clashes and miss half of them, like at Deftones this year. That Friday Revival gimmick in the Forrest is electric, I'll be there with my camping chair and a crate all day! Quote
