Paid Members Up Chuck Posted April 19, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted April 19, 2012 (edited) Actually, this has no relevance to actual film discussion so I'm pussying out and removing it. To give Sev's post some context, I was talking about 500 Days of Summer. Edited April 19, 2012 by opcws
Mr. Seven
It's an awful film and Zooey Deschanel is a fucking cunt.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted April 19, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted April 19, 2012 I love her. But I don't expect to ever see her in anything that I would like.
The King Of Swing
After reading through the recent horror thread I decided to go on a bit of a horror binge and ordered Suspiria, Inferno, Deep Red and The Beyond on blu-ray.

It was just hatefully, shockingly arch and unwatchable.
King Pitcos
I like (500) Days of Summer. And I normally hate films that are so desperately aimed at hipster wankers. I've read one or two other scripts by the same writers as well, and thought they were great. Only just found out they had a TV series last year, I shall check it out and report back in the TV thread, bitterly disappointed.

Liked it but thought Zooey D was an an utter bitch in it. Wouldnt be so bad but my GF 's mates says she reminds them of ZD in that film

Yeah, similar sentiments here really. Pleasantly surprised by how much i enjoyed it. Possibly a guilty pleasure, maybe, I found the post-sex scene far more amusing than i should have. What are the other scripts you're referring to? I can't be bothered to search for it myself at this present moment in time.
Paid Members FLips Posted April 20, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted April 20, 2012 Watched Rushmore again for the first time in a couple of years. Like a lot of Wes Anderson's stuff I found it much better with repeat viewings. I'd actually go as far as saying I'd place it above The Royal Tenenbaums, or at least equal. I'd actually go as far as saying I'd place it above The Royal Tenenbaums, or at least equal.Like all of Wes Anderson's films, the whimsical, vaguely surreal style is entertaining for the first hour or so, but the lack of clear motivation, direction or likeable central characters ultimately means your attention starts to wander and by the time it ends you're all ready to swop in your Predator 2 DVD and get some proper entertainment. Paid Members ColinBollocks Posted April 20, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted April 20, 2012 (edited) I finally got round to watching Into The Abyss last night; I'm still on a bit of a downer after watching it, ha. The most striking part is when they're showing police footage of the crime scene (with blood and bodies etc) and the music/cello floats in and haunts the scene. It's fairly well balanced, considering Herzog makes it clear from the beginning that he's against the death penalty and that he doesn't like the two murderers. As always, he asks the questions that seem to get the deepest most honest response (well apart from the two murderers, who blame each other for the deaths). The final scene going on about the "dash" is quite something. If you watch it, make sure you have Toy Story or something to stick on after it. Paid Members neil's bitch Posted April 20, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted April 20, 2012 (edited) Checked out: 2001: a space odyssey last night night and must say, its fairly good!  For the most part the story is fairly straight forward, the "look" of the film is amazing considering it was made in 1968, and some of the camera tricks are amazing. Otherwise the film is fairly "slow paced" so at times you may of thought "just get on with it", but its works well.  The Jupiter part of the story is possibly the most famous with "HAL" and all that jazz, which again was done very well. The only thing i will say is with the ending......i really didnt understand what the hell happened.  <-- click on 'spoiler' to show/hide the spoiler For example, i understand what went on for a brief moment, the Monolith in space, the guy travelling through a star-gate style thing, as well as what looks like the birth of the universe. It was that part ofter that when he is in the room, viewing older versions of himself, until he turns into the star-child. Again at a base, it seemed ok......although i didnt really understand the meaning of that particular part.  Edit: After a quick google i found:  " The novel explains the hotel room sequence as a kind of alien zoo—fabricated from information derived from intercepted television transmissions from Earth—in which Dave Bowman is studied by the invisible alien entities. Kubrick's film leaves all this unstated."   [close spoiler] ");document.close(); Overall, it seemed to be spot on with most things i had heard regarding the movie, and is a Stanley Kubrick movie, and looks amazing because of this. Well worth a watch!  I had heard of a sequel from the 80's called 2010, has anybody seen this? Edited April 20, 2012 by Bowyo T
Loki
Yeah, it's not bad either. It's a bit of a retread but not awful by any means.I think it's 2001 where the spaceship control systems just look amazing, like much more futuristic than something like Star Trek: Next Generation.
