To be fair, films have always been remade, even back in the 30s. It might seem like a recent thing but it isn't.

Doing something new with a classic character isn't the same anyway, it would be like saying no one should make any more James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, Mickey Mouse or Batman things ever again, and a world without Batman things isn't something I want to be a part of.

I'm a fan of Missy, and bits and bobs of FOB (mainly Sugar You're Going Down or whatever it's called, due to nostalgic reasons)

 

But yeah, that's wank.

I think it's not too bad. Not something I'm going to be putting on, but a decent theme song for a big blockbuster. I do think they should have just come up with something new though, instead of riffing off the old one.

I think it suffers a lot in comparison to the original. If it had been of equal quality to what it is but had no connection to the original I don't think I'd have found it as awful as I did.

Yep. That's the double edged sword of coasting off the popularity of an established IP, I guess...

I think that's what makes it so poor to be honest. They'd be better off just doing something original instead of a double-time Ray Parker Jr. cover. I realise they were always going to take elements of that one and there's nothing wrong with that, but so much of it is just flat out lifted from it.

 

Mind you, I'm concerned that might be exactly what I won't like about the film itself.

I don't know how it escaped me this long but Nicolas Cage has a comedy coming out next year co-starring the mum from the Goldbergs and it's directed by Larry Charles of Curb Your Enthusiasm and Borat fame. There's something to look forward to, I've been waiting for Nic Cage to do another comedy for ages.
