Yeah the ending of The Mist was stupid. The sort of thing you'd write for your GCSE English coursework.

The ending to The Mist was excellent. Unexpected and didn't take the easy option like the US version of The Vanishing.

Unexpected is fine, but it also has to make sense and it didn't. They should have kept the ending to the book. Then they might have been able to do a sequel as well. Stephen King is an idiot.

I loved the ending to Take Shelter. Wonderfully interpretive. Most of John Carpenter's best films have great ambiguous endings, but none of them are better than Prince Of Darkness which really is shit-your-pants scary.

I said a while back that if science could prove what the best film ever made was then my money would be on Miller's Crossing.

Some great endings have already been mentioned; my favourite that hasn’t come up yet is Boogie Nights. I could watch that last five minutes, from when the montage with God Only Knows begins playing, then the tracking shot following Jack around his house before finishing on Dirk Diggler’s pep talk to himself, over and over. I know some people find it quite down beat but I think it’s really uplifting.
