The show you look forward to most

Wrestlemania used to be my most anticipated show of the year, but after my interest spiked slightly during the run-up to Cody’s title win, I’ve become apathetic to it.

These days, I’m more excited about All In than I am any other show. AEW has managed to position it as their mega-show and it’s worked for me, at least. 

So what show is the ‘big one’ for you each year? Is it Wrestlemania? The Royal Rumble? Wrestle Kingdom? World’s End for the CC final? Forbidden Door? Or something else entirely?

It's always been Royal Rumble for me. Even when they've been shit as in more recent years, I still get a little of "this might be good" magic. It's pregnant with possibility.

It used to be the Rumble until I stopped properly watching WWE about 8 years ago (I say 'properly' watching because I still see a fair bit of it in clip form online, but it's very rare I intentionally tune in now).

Right now it would be AEW All In, especially the UK ones. 

If I can take an entire month of shows, then AEW's December is great every year precisely because of the Continental Classic, with the caveat that all of their other booking seems to grind to a standstill during this time. But I'm not arsed, the CC makes up for it.

Used to be the Rumble for me too as you could probably guess by the millions of hours I've put into the stats over the years. They absolutely killed it years ago. Awful ring work and poor booking is the biggest problem. Also that there are two of them. Slightly in their defence, there have been about 50 of them. It's gonna be hard to book a simple, compelling Rumble for people who've seen dozens of them and want something new.

AEW haven't really established a show as the Rumble or Mania equivilant. Double or Nothing felt like it might be it. I guess All In is the closest thing after last year but I dunno if they'll keep that up. Given it's a dead period, generally, I'd love them to deliver on the promise of Starrcade (WCW somehow always fucked it up) and end the year on a real high.

When I was a kid, it was SummerSlam. The 1990 show is still one of my favourites ever and I loved it for a long time. 1999 was probably the first SummerSlam I didn't love - I only saw 1995 years later.

The Rumble. I always wanted to attend a Mania and I think my want for that has passed and I'm really not arsed anymore, and nowadays if I was to go to a big show, I'd prefer a Rumble.

Rumble and WrestleMania for me. Even if it's dross, the lead up, the hilarious posts on here, it's all part of it. I feel kinda empty once it's done for a day or two. Like when you've been looking forward to a holiday and you get home and have to get used to going back to normal.

It definitely WAS WrestleMania for me. I went to two of them (20 and 25). I watched many of them live in the middle of the night with my brother. 

More recently (and by recent, I mean from 2010 onwards) it was always a huge day on the calendar for my friend group. We were all into wrestling at various times and regardless of current interest levels, we always made a huge day / weekend of it. That all changed in the last couple of years as we have all just completely stopped caring. There is not even a suggestion of us getting together to watch it now. 

I would say All In (the Wembley ones anyway) is the show of shows for me at this point. It has the big show feel but its on at a nice time for me to actually watch it.

I don't think I have one any more.

I didn't watch the Royal Rumble this year, and didn't miss it. Same goes for Wrestlemania. More often than not in recent years, those shows have annoyed me more than they've entertained me, and any pleasure I got out of them was from the company I was with watching them. 

All In isn't there yet. I don't think any AEW show has managed to get the consistency that something like the Rumble has, in terms of knowing what you're going to get, but also, I only got tickets for the second All In the week of the show, and otherwise was going to be happy to watch it from home. It's not something I'm getting excited about in advance.

Weirdly, maybe at a push, it's Joey Janela's Spring Break now. It's stupid shit happening around Wrestlemania in general.

WrestleMania, followed by the Rumble. I do like SummerSlam as well to be fair, so many good memories of all 3 growing up, but back me into a corner and ask for one answer and its still WrestleMania.

But nowadays its like following your football team through a really, really rough patch, you watch with hope, and wait for the better times, but just lately the tide isnt turning.

As a kid, my first proper big event was SummerSlam '91, so to me that's the better show than WrestleMania.

I’d go for the Rumble, certainly if I was ever going to go to a show it’d be that, Survivor Series was my favourite as a kid though, I remember my mind being blown by the wild card match in ‘95 (I was 11)

Perhaps I need to get my hipster glasses out for this one. I honestly don't look forward to any major shows that I will be watching through a screen anymore. It might just be my age and life getting in the way, I truly look forward to so little these days its shocking. 

What I do get excited for is shows I'm going to be it a tiny 3 show afternoon card at a food festival or a bigger event. Wrestling's the only thing I go to where I kind of let myself go, have a few beers, make a bit of noise and forget about adult life
