Last week’s Dynamite was 2 1/2 hours and I think that was just a regular episode. Maybe they just don’t have strict timing they have to keep to at the moment and can get away with going long.

The only major sport in the U.S. at the moment is Baseball (NFL doesn’t start for another month while the NHL starts at the end of September and the NBA opening day being in October). Alongside market blackouts, the majority of games that are played midweek are played in the afternoon, so there ends up being a lot of schedule space to fill

It does have a 2 1/2 hour slot this week which is the same as last year I believe.

Collision is live on Saturday from the US.

it's a really good line-up, but it's a bit of a shame that the only CMLL names on it are people who are popping up quite often in AEW anyway, on dual contracts. It would be nice to have at least one new face for the AEW audience, because it makes more of a novelty of running Arena Mexico, and creates an opportunity for another new name to kind of break out and catch people's attention.

A very enjoyable show, as it always is from Arena Mexico. However, at the moment I’m not going to focus on the details and highlight a point I feel very strongly about - one I’ve brought up before, so apologies for being repetitive.

AEW needs to stop sharing posts from X. It’s impossible to justify at this point. Elon Musk posts about race daily. He’s called, on the platform, people who oppose ‘remigration’ (a softer sounding word to describe the horrific idea of forced deportations) ‘traitors’. He shares dangerous misinformation and uses the platform to push his far right agenda.

My job involves using social media. Yesterday, I had to log into X and I was greeted by an autoplayed clip from the livestream by Perez Hilton in which he self-mutilated. I’m not exaggerating when I say it will haunt me for quite some time. 

AEW should not be pushing people towards this harmful, hateful platform. It opens up the potential of impressionable young fans joining the platform in the hope of getting their post featured on screen, opening them up to a world of misinformation and hate. A really awful outcome.

I fully support this point. It's an excellent post. I can see why they're still on it. I still use it for business purposes because it's still where a lot of the relevant followers and organisations I need to deal with are and I think that's the same for AEW and most businesses. I absolutley agree with not highlighting it though. I've found Bluesky a disappointment (for my purposes) after the early promise but AEW highlighting posts from there, even if they remain on Twitter would be a really nice move and highlight an alternative.

Probably one for it's own thread but Twitter is still going to be widely used until institutions move off the platform and their associates follow. Like football, for instance. The FA need a policy of not using it and to move all of their official accounts onto a new, safer platform and then clubs and journalists, etc need to follow. As long as it is what it is, the biggest institutions need to be driving change away from that shithole.

Great post @RedTwoster. Fully agree.

Twitter is not the only thing that annoyed me about Dynamite this week, despite it having a mostly very good crowd with mostly very good wrestling (albeit nothing that matched the magic of last year’s show).

”Worried the sombreros might be problematic” said the graphic for the Trios Title match. Like fuck you were, Hangman. I don’t believe a word of it. I bet you and Marty came up with the sombrero idea over lunch or something. I hate how little I care about Hangman now.

Ciampa doing unsolicited dick pics during a match can get in the bin and then the bin can be thrown into the sun. I know he’s a heel. But what a fucking terrible idea.

Ospreay could have had that exact same match with Jon Moxley and it would have drawn a line under the stupid Death Riders storyline and allowed him to actually focus on Omega at Wembley without that cloud hanging over him. Genuinely, the exact same match and it would have served a much better purpose. But no. 

While I’m being a downer, Fletcher and Speedball wasn’t a patch on their other matches, and the crowd sounded weirdly quiet for the women’s trios match.

But for some positives, I love Mistico in this environment, and I loved Okada making his disgusted face during Mistico’s entrance (and Jericho’s) even more, the wonderful man. I liked that there were two women’s matches on the card (although given it was a three hour show that’s not really a great compliment), Toa Liona was fantastic even though he lost, and MJF’s return was good even if it feels like it’s already telegraphed the result of the Casino Gauntlet for Wembley.

Didn’t even make it one paragraph, sorry. I really wanted to like this show but it just rubbed me up the wrong way. And I hadn’t even considered the Twitter stuff!

Yeah. Andrade did his usual pose for a selfie spot, then Ciampa went over to the girl, nicked her phone and took it back to the ring, stood on the apron, shoved the phone down his trunks and took some photos then threw it back at her. It was awful. Such a bad idea.

I really wish AEW would stop just throwing "no outside interference" out there as a "rule" for specific matches, like outside interference isn't illegal in every standard match anyway. "Everyone banned from ringside" with added context along the lines of hefty fine / lengthy suspension / immediate firing for transgression (and that it can be enforced retrospectively if caught on camera regardless of if the ref sees it at the time) does exactly the same job in a less lazy fashion.

Even when they appended "no outside interference" to a street fight on Wednesday, you could have at least emphasised that interference by a 3rd party was the only thing that would get you DQ'd.
