I think it's basically that story to some degree but without the Collision aspect. Hangman when you look at his trajectory around that time that it all proper kicked off noticeably went down the card a little bit, actually he was in somewhat of a holding pattern until the Swerve angle began. Given that he wasn't saving dogs or throwing hands on that famous incident, that might have been his way of being cooled or 'punished' for the line he dropped that eventually drove Punk fucking mental. If it was and any of that is true, he handled it very well, his lack of any biting to stuff Punk came out with (ha ha, your action figure isn't selling much) probably made Punk more irritated.

Had his title reign not had the Punk thing take place I reckon they'd have done Hangman/Mox sooner, he'd have dropped the belt to MJF somewhere and then they would have revisited Punk/MJF but for the title in the 'everything didn't fall apart' alternative timeline.

Anyway, they're both doing pretty alright for themselves these days, whether artistically or monetarily.

I think the original plan was Hangman Vs. Heel Mox for his first feud as champion, but Mox went to rehab and they rushed a Danielson heel turn that was way too soon to fill the gap.

Great show and all, but fuck me that was long. It felt like one of those old seven hour WrestleMania shows at points. Thankfully the crowd didn't lose too much steam across the show.

Obviously the stadium makes AEW seem like a really big deal, which is awesome, but I do wish they would sort the sound system out for things like this. Weird echo on quite a few entrance themes, and I'm sure there's a way to sort for the broadcast.

I don't know, as always with AEW I feel like there's always little production things that make them seem a bit less polished. Maybe that's a good thing in general in fairness, but this was quite annoying in this instance. Mercedes Mone's entrance was especially bad for weird tinny feedback.

That was a great show, but it’s taken me two days to get through it all, so long that the discussion in here has alread reverted into CM Punk Again. And I haven’t even been at work! 
 

I don’t think I have anything to add that others haven’t said, but here goes anyway.

The pre-show brought the BOOM. Conglomeration Kyle is the best Kyle, hopping down the ramp doing Rizzler faces. And I like the annual appearance of the Iron Claw.

Always a safe bet putting Joe in the opener of a big show, people rightfully love him so everybody’s into it straight away. Not sure what happens with the Trios belts if he’s being written off for a bit.

There have been better Casino Gauntlets (it peaked at Wembley last year for me) but I still had fun. I love Mistico’s music but I was a bit worried he’d injured himself, every time they cut to the hard cam he was lying in the same place by the Spanish announce desk, must have been there quarter of an hour. Nice to have the Gunns back, they could be fun against the Hurts. Didn’t expect anyone but MJF to win.

Adam Cole announcement was really sad, I hope he’s going to be alright. He’d found a groove again recently and it’s just such a shame. Lovely to have Dustin get the win, though I fully expect Fletcher to batter him on Dynamite and take the title.

Ospreay always feels like such a big deal when they do a huge entrance like that for him. I love the Assassin’s Creed tie ins. Everyone felt a huge deal actually, which made for a good match - and it helped I wasn’t sure at all who might win.

Women’s gauntlet was fun, would have liked a Willow win but Athena’s a good shout.

Tag title match felt like it existed so the post-match could happen. I liked the line, I’m intrigued, I want the reunion and Copeland’s best stuff in AEW has been in association with Christian, so let’s have it.

Toni is the best. She’s just fantastic. Great match, fascinated to see what happens with Mercedes now she’s lost a match. If nothing else she’s got that tag team with Harley Cameron to fall back on. Again, it helped having no idea who would win this. 

Omega and Okada was never going to be on the level of previous matches, but was probably the big match I struggled most to get into. I mostly just worry about whether Kenny’s okay; it does feel like he’s winding down a bit.

That main event. Outstanding. I got goosebumps everywhere and might have got a little bit emotional when I heard Hangman’s old music. It was violent and barbaric without being gratuitous. The run ins were everything I hoped, not in the sense that I expected them but that I just wanted them. Ospreay! Danielson!! Darby! Swerve!!! And the ending was perfect. He did it! Perfect.

That's pretty much every Triple H match at Wrestlemania (Warrior squash aside) peaked at the promo package and the entrances.

AEW All In will be airing on ITV 4 on Thursday 17th July at 9pm, it will be a 5-hour version rather than the full 6 hours

A very satisfying show but not a classic one. The stuff that needed to be great (the 3 main events) definitely was and everything else was mostly fine or passable.

- the set up looked fantastic. You could have told me they had 50,000 and I would have believed it.

- opener was absolutely pointless. Especially as we already had a better version of this match with Mox instead of Kidd on Dynamite ages ago. Shouldn't of happened and Hobbs and Joe should have been in the Casino Gauntlet instead. Gabe Kidd is shite. IM MAD ME fuck off.

- I think the Casino Gauntlet may have peaked last year. This was fun enough but too long and lacking in epic moments. The fun thing about these matches is you realise how insanely deep the roster is and start thinking of matches/feuds you had never considered but would love to see. Ibushi vs Mortos on some random Collision - yes please! 

- Poor Cole, I imagine this is it for him. He's had a fair few severe concussions in the past. I've seen online clips of the bump that did it and it's pretty nasty looking. If Cole is comfortable with it, I'd use it to get major heel heat on Fletcher. The match was fine. Sammy Guevara is just sad to watch these days. I was touched by the Dustin win and am looking forward to him having a decent short run of good TV main events with that title. Fletcher absolutely has to get it eventually though. Run a programme and end it with Fletcher vs Rhodes in a bull rope or strap match.

- Ospreay/Swerve vs Bucks was exactly what you would have expected from these four. If you like this type of match it was a masterful display of that type of match. If not, well they wouldn't have been able to do anything to change your mind on it.

- Womens Gauntlet felt a bit more solid than the men's overall with some decent action. Tay Melo looks great and hits hard but screams like a fucking berk non stop and it's very annoying. Willow of course is the best. Alex Windsor's music starting with some cockney shouting "WINDSOR!" was hilariously shit. I've never seen her - any good? 

- 3 Way tag match again had solid action but was too long on a show that was already too long.

- a great moment in this match where Knight accidentally got into the Hurt Syndicate's corner while they weren't tagged in and Benjamin snatched him from behind, launched him out the ring and they both absolutely mauled him. It was a really clever sequence that I hadn't seen before in a 3 way tag match. Loved it.

EDIT: the spot in question:

- pretty sure Speedball did three springboard moonsaults to the outside in this which I mean c'mon.

- Cope/Christian stuff was really good I thought. Like that they are seemingly not going for the obvious immediate reunion and going with a slower burn redemption of Christian Cage story.

- Storm/Mone was easily match of the Night. Absolutely incredible nail biting contest from start to finish. I was desperate for Storm to win and the longer it went the more certain I was that she was losing. I was thrilled that she won. An incredible shot of her exhausted face at the end. All the stars. Storm is the best and Mone losing instantly makes her more interesting going forwards. 

- I haven't seen the previous Okada/Omega matches. I enjoyed this one very much. Omega feels very much like the end isn't too far off. Okada does so many brilliant little things constantly that it covers how little effort he's putting in for the most part. And when he does decide to turn it up you instantly see how dangerous he is. It's like he's so good that he doesn’t need to go 100% unless he has to but when he does it's instantly noticeable. It's a cool twist on a wrestling character. The story for this one felt like ageing superhero pushing himself as hard as he can while knowing he's not who he used to be vs the ultimate cheating villain who will do anything to beat his old rival. I dug that.

- a brilliant small moment at the end where Omega is being helped out and Okada follows him around the ring gloating with the belt. It's the little things.

- Hangman/Mox was suitably epic. A big grand sports entertainment drama wrapped up in a brutal, nasty pro wrasslin deathmatch. Only AEW can pull off something like this. Both men, particularly Mox, played their roles to perfection. 

- in a show that was seven years long the gimmicks were needed not only for the story but just to separate it from all the wrestling we'd already seen.

- Hangman obliterating Mox's head with the fork was one of the gnarliest things I've ever seen. Absolutely badass.

- if wrestling is fundamentally about the never ending battle between good and evil then this whole thing is a perfect example of it. A seemingly unstoppable evil is defeated and exposed by a group of unlikely heroes who put their past sins behind them and unite for the greater good.

- Danielson in the Blue Panther mask was great just because you know he only wore it because he thought it was funny.

- at All In 2024, Hangman cost Swerve the title. At All In 2025, Swerve helped Hangman win the title. Bloody lovely.

- Hangman Page. What a beautiful man. AEW is the best.

Watched two hours live on Saturday night, a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon, and finished it off last night.

Absolutely no need for it to be 6 hours long.

Fair play to the fans for still being so invested in that main event though, that's probably my favourite ever AEW match, everything just coming perfectly together for a superb ending and crowing the top guy, hopefully he gets a proper run this time.
