Todd was a bit annoying though, and his only weak spot was being an announcer. As much shit as Michael Cole got for looking a bit of a nerd, he wasn't fucking Kevin Kelly. Someone so unlikeable and it turns out a real life weirdo you can almost wave off the awful shit Rock used to say on the basis it was Kelly.

Now WCW, Scott Hudson, there's a good hand with a great voice, seemed the nice balance to keep an disinterested Tony and a woeful arsehole Mark Madden from going completely off piste.

Mooney vs Pettengill is interesting because they both represented their eras so well. Our Sean being the classic reflection of the Regan/Bush republican era, buttoned up, always in a smart suit, a classic newsman permanently baffled by the chaos and insanity going on around him but always a pro. Whereas Todd the more free-wheeling, irreverent reflection of the Clinton democrat era, loud and colourful and goofy morning zoo yoof presenter leaning in to the wackiness.

I always found it interesting finding out whilst they eventually replaced each other, all of these announcers had overlaps and it wasn't one out, the next day here was another. Craig DeGeorge and Sean Mooney shared 5 months on screen together, Mooney and Todd, 3 months. Cole and Pettengill again, another 5 months existing in the same company.

Just to add, in order to complete a full analysis of Sean vs Todd it’s important to look at the most significant partnerships in their life.

Sean formed a wonderful duo with Lord Alfred Hayes, playful but he was always reverential to nobility while his Lordship flirted with Sean, a love that sadly dare not express itself in those times. Warm but distant, he was always “your lordship” to Mooney.

Whereas Todd’s truly great relationship was with the manic cocaine cowboy Randy Savage, all decked out in neon and insane energy. An evolved masculinity in a more modern era where men could share emotions, watching the normally zany Todd stand by Macho when Crush was refusing to take his calls and then being the shoulder to cry on when Crush turned on him and offering support to his bestie was truly beautiful television. An episode of WWF Mania after the dreadful incident with a serious, somber Todd not afraid to be vulnerable was groundbreaking.

They had a lot of faith in Todd as the man of the 90s that all his predecessors were completely asexual but they experimented with giving him a female cohost in Stephanie Wiand and while she was perhaps a bit too similar to Todd I was genuinely rooting for their love to blossom.

Stephanie Wiand was another person I liked as a kid because she was enthusiastic, websites like Wrestlecrap said she sucked and that's why she wasn't around long and the truth was simply she was getting paid fuck all and rightly wanted better money. For your blink and you'll miss them broadcasters she was nowhere near the worst.

Yeah, I actually really liked her on the 1993 rewatch, and she had a rather fun show with her husband in the 80's doing links between the big wrestling blocks that aired in the states.

Again someone probably more memorable than say Charlie Minn, Joe Fowler, Lucas, Lance Wright and the incredibly obscure Joe Bevins for WWF announcers that barely existed.
