Had a skim through that last night. Bit disappointed it wasn’t just loads of squash matches, to be honest.

Best of Sid and they stick up a thumbnail from one of his worst. Should’ve just been everything from International Incident to Survivor Series 96

Should’ve been 3 hours of wrecking jobbers, the title win off Shawn and a load of mad promos spliced in like the “half a brain” one, the great one he did when he was revealed as Shawn and Ahmed’s partner on Raw in July 96, the “WHY ME?” bit when Goldberg had his car crushed. There’s so much gold with Sid spanning all his WCW, WWF and brief ECW runs. It’s cool they did a Sid compilation but it could’ve been so much better considering the archive they’re sitting on.

There's a bunch of dark matches against guys like Warlord, Earthquake, Typhoon and the like they could've mined like they did the Dibiase one. All the 1991 vignettes for him with other wrestlers commenting on him. And there's doubtless some good outtakes with him too. Consequently, all I ended up watching was the six man tag with Vader and Rude because it was one of the lower profile matches.

There's two different styles of these wrestler comps aren't there, this one that Sid, Vader and Rude got and then the Mixtape one they did for Savage, Bret and Terry Funk. A Sid Mixtape with promos and squashes would be cool, though I appreciate the match comp style would be easier to put together.

If the Vault posted all the ‘Widow-Maker’ Barry Windham squashes from 89 then that wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.

I love these mixtapes they do. And since Eddie Guerrero is/was my favourite wrestler, this has gone down a treat. Another great collection of classic matches, deep cuts, never before seen rarities and behind-the-scenes footbage. Well worth checking out. God he was good.

Great to see the Backlash 2000 bit on there. It was a big old stereotype obviously, but Eddie doing his Pepe le Pew act with Chyna was incredibly funny. Something about Eddie Guerrero was his determination to throw everything into something and drag even meh booking kicking and screaming to something watchable. It's great seeing him cracking up Chyna too, nice to hear really enjoying herself.

I managed an hour or so of it last night and there are a few little gems in the first hour. Eddie as WWE Champion inviting his Mum into the ring to celebrate her, meeting an old mate and crying seeing the ring they used to work in for his Dad, filming on set with some girls in a low rider and some footage doing a promo shoot, which I think was for this:

It's what makes him one of the GOATs, for me.

He was such a good all-rounder, able to do babyface or heel, serious or funny and work any style of match. He was also really good at improvising and could change up his act based on how the crowd were on any given night, something I don't think many could do today (given how thoroughly mapped out in advance matches typically are).

Sure, the ultra-athletic lads these days can go out and put on thirty-minute five-star matches, but could they take a throwaway segment, promo or five-minute midcard match and make it memorable? Eddie could. His run with Chyna only lasted five months all told, but people remember it so vividly because they had a presence and charisma and made it work. A really good television act that I remember reading was initially conceived as a rib on Eddie because he was short.

Yeah, the fact he could do all the silly comedy shit but then still be taken completely seriously when the situation called for it (sometimes even in the same match!) is one of the things that marks Eddie out as an all time great for me. Similar with Terry Funk. Eddie could go from cheating behind the refs back and then playing dead when he turned around, to within seconds getting you back into buying into near falls and hanging on his every move. He was class.

Him and Chyna were great together and it’s not necessarily a pairing that you’d have thought would work. Chyna in that short time she was with Eddie genuinely looked like she was enjoying herself more than at any other point in her career. I’m not sure there was another wrestler on the roster who would’ve worked so well with her than Eddie did.

I’ll have to give that comp a watch later. Don’t even know what’s included but Eddie very rarely had a bad match or segment so it’s gonna be good regardless.
