Chili Posted July 25 Posted July 25 (edited) Big Bubba during his Dungeon of Doom leather biker daddy era (one of his less successful runs) against John Tenta with half his hair missing and looking way beyond 50 years old in a Silver Dollar pole match featuring Jimmy Hart terrifyingly shimming up the tallest pole ever used in wrestling history. It's also really enjoyable. The same show the nWo debuts with the Hogan turn and the preceding match on the card was Rey Misterio Jr/Psychosis. WCW had quite the variety. Hart Foundation vs Demolition, 2/3 Falls from SummerSlam 90… While I’m here, over on the WCW channel, they uploaded the Arn Anderson & Dustin Rhodes vs Terry Funk & Bunkhouse Buck match from Bash At The Beach 94… Good stuff. I actually really enjoyed that whole storyline from here to the War Games match at Fall Brawl. Arn turning on Dustin was telegraphed as shit but welcome because Double A was always better as a heel and him against Dustin was better than them teaming, Funk was obviously class as always, Bunkhouse was a guy I never appreciated in real time but I really like him watching this stuff back now. He also looks like he was plucked straight out of the Dingle family on Emmerdale. Plus you get Meng in a suit at ringside! The Stud Stable theme is a cracker as well, I think. Quote

Chico Torres Posted July 26 Posted July 26 One of the main differences between the two promotions was that WWF was the fancy metropolitan promotion in the big north east cities while WCW was firmly rooted in the southern NWA tradition and it had a more hard-nosed gritty edge without the slick polish of the WWF. And I think the Rhodes vs Stud Stable feud may be the last great feud in WCW that directly related back to that, lots of great bloody brawls and the great southern Baptist preacher fire and brimstone promo by Dusty asking to team with his son and all the southern dynasty clans like the Andersons and Rhodes and Funks and Fullers having a proper old style redneck feud. It’s symbolic that it felt like the last stand of Crockett Promotions just as the very unsouthern Bischoff achieved his dream of turning WCW into the slick Hogan-led WWF Something I particularly love about that Bash at the Beach match is Terry Funk. Rather than settling into the boring role of dignified former world champion who’s appearing at the most watched PPV in WCW history with a lot of new eyes in the promotion and everyone on their best behaviour. Instead of having a cup of tea and an early night to get ready for the big PPV the next day, the night before he was in a barbed wire match in the ECW arena with the Public Enemy and shows up to the PPV bandaged and scarred and he’s great as always. Terry was great. I remember him putting on a one man show tagging with Buck vs The Nasty Boys at Halloween Havoc a few months later. Fighting with ringsiders, hitting himself in the head repeatedly with a chair and being finished off by getting piledriven on a pumpkin. Great stuff. Quote
