At a guess, probably a bit of both. He's always been happy to pop back when he can, even for random appearances. WRESTLEMANIA IN LONDON!! Yeah right John.

I imagine the money is great. He seems like the kind of guy that wouldn't want to embarrass himself out there way beyond his years, although if the money comes calling it usually gets most of them in the end!

Time will tell if this is an actual final run or he'll be another Terry Funk or every single old time rock band ever.

It's a shame that Cena isn't finishing up at Wrestlemania 2025 or 2026 because him versus CM Punk is a no brainer for a main event. So much money being left on the table if they don't do it.

I can’t help thinking that the main event would be far better as a traditional Survivor Series elimination match without all the WarGames nonsense around it. Think of the hot tags.

I used to love the old elimination matches and hope they make a return at some point. 

Nearly always enjoy the War Games matches at the time, and I very much doubt tonight will be any different, but there's not that many that are truly memorable. I feel like it's because it's the one match that has barely ever had an organic buildup and been the end to a blood feud in the way HIAC has been (or was and is what they're trying to get back to).  It's always been its own annual PPV match whether it be in WCW, NXT or WWE.

100% this. The traditional Survivor Series match is one of the greatest match formats ever devised. Great fun, visually brilliant and ideal for advancing multiple storylines or instigating new ones all in one match. It baffles me that WWE have abandoned it.

Even more strange is that they have replaced it with an inferior gimmick match, devised by a rival company, that for years they didn't want to touch.

Survivor Series was my least favourite of the big 4 PPVs during those years where every match was a massive tag match and people were getting pinned from clotheslines. I never want to go back to that.

Started horrifically though. Women’s War Games match was the drizzling shits. Cannot believe someone, somewhere, decided Nia Jax needed to start and wrestle the entirety of the match. She had one of the worst performances of the year. Even Britt Baker was probably laughing and shaking her head. Nia looked a complete joke out here. She improved a bit when she originally returned, but she’s quickly returned to being absolute dog shit. Those chair shots need to be seen to be believed. Such a pathetic, embarrassing performance, that you assume crisis talks are already occuring. Tiffy Time come Friday, if I was to guess. Remember when Ken Kennedy shat the bed so badly that Cena and Orton got him sacked? That’s what I thought about here. Jax looked that bad.

Nia aside, it was everything wrong with WWE War Games matches. No story or drama. Just people running down and grabbing weapons like it’s Supermarket Sweep. Last few minutes was fun, with all the mad spots and Io binning it again, but fuck me. As an overall match? Dreadful.

Skipped LA Knight and Nakamura. Life’s too short to watch Nakamura in 2024.

Intercontinental Triple Threat was the absolute tits. WWE Match of the year candidate. They’ve hit the jackpot with Sheamus’ willingness to knock shite out of himself and his opponents, combined with Breakker’s bonkers athleticism. Every time he flew into shot with a mad spear, it got better and better. They need to stretch this out to Wrestlemania. Sheamus finally winning the IC Title is the perfect storybook ending.

Really good World Title match. Gunther looks to be putting a tiny bit more beef back on. Great to see. Damien had a brilliant night. Good, hard-hitting action. Seems to be a backwards step going back to Finn, but I guess we’ll wait and see.

Excellent main event. Easily the best War Games WWE have ever done. Bloodline Bullshit at its finest. Loved it all. My boys all back together, all getting their flowers. Now with the added bonus of Punk and Roman’s sexual tension being off the fucking chain. Every single shot. Every single glance. Every single spot. It was only the other day I was talking about how Roman had all-timer magic with both Cody and Sami. Add Punk to this list. This felt humongous. Wrestlemania worthy. Don’t you dare take this way from me, Hunter! 

Bonus points for Bronson looking amazing and Jacob Fatu putting in the ultimate shift, with everything geared towards making him the next big thing.

Excellent finish, with an amazing final shot of everyone posing. You assume that’s the end of the Solo Sikoa experiment, but at least he went out on a high.

The lingering shots at the end suggested a big return, but I guess they were just trolling us. What a world we live in though, where the success of Moana 2 can legitimately have a huge impact on the product. Coming off the back of Red One bombing, I was convinced Rock would be back as soon as possible. Now though? With Moana 2 breaking records? Maybe he’s not as desperate. Maybe he won’t even be at Mania.

But regardless. Rock or not. I’m begging you Hunter. Do not Seth Rollins this.

BONUS PRESS CONFERENCE THOUGHTS.

Wade Barrett teasing Big E about the New Day Celebration on Raw made my heart burst. Save us Big E! They’re daring to be sour!

Sami and Punk answering questions was interesting. Maybe there’s nothing there, but I’m convinced you could sense a bit of tension between them. Sami’s earnestly trying to answer questions, clearly taking huge pride in what they’ve created with The Bloodline saga, whilst Phil “don’t cater to the internet hardcores,” Brooks is making jokes about muffins and goofing around with Jey Uso. At least once you could see Sami get a sulk on when he lost his train of thought. Listen to poor Sami, trying to be all serious and intelligent, whilst the naughty kids mess around. Punk would chin someone for less in AEW!

Seemed Punk had no idea about the Jackass match, either. Sami just nodding was great. I’ll forever love how Sami holds zero shame for that match and is super proud of what he accomplished. Too fucking right. It’s a masterpiece.

My first thought was "I stayed up for that?" because nothing happened at the end as I was desperately trying to keep my eyes open for SOMETHING as they kept hanging around. But no.

On reflection the show itself certainly wasn't bad. Well, as has already been said, the women's one was rubbish apart from a few spots. I just didn't care. Nia clearly decided she wasn't letting Tonga Loa be the worst War Games performance that night and put in a real shift there. You have to try REALLY hard to be that bad. It's as if she had amnesia and she'd never actually been in a ring before.

And Knight/Nakamura has no place on a 2024 PPV thanks. Although glad they already improved his new evil music.

IC title match was everything I hoped it would be. From Ludwig's entrance and head movement and stepping to Sheamus being willing to take anything to Bron being such an immense all rounder.. I need a rematch.

World title. The idea that anyone thought Finn needed to be involved again is ridiculous. Priest getting AWAY from the Judgment Day stuff is the best thing that ever happened to him. He's legit looked comfortable and confident alone and more like a main event player every week. Don't drag the poor guy down with Finn's weird angry face! At least Gunther didn't want to see him either. Good man.

Main event was good solid Bloodline stuff but yeah being a big PPV I was expecting something memorable in terms of development and it just didn't come. It was a weird feeling. Feels a bit tough criticising it for stuff that didn't happen.. but yeah as much as a lot of it was great it felt a little like we'd been teased and they just walked off.

I know we don't want it but Seth not showing up was mad. They definitely trolled us thinking That The Final Boss was showing up. Oh well. At least we have WrestleMania 40 to look back on.

I guess the thing is you can't have that every big PPV or else it becomes diluted and not a fun surprise. And we all have our own expectations and fantasy booking in our heads etc. It just genuinely felt like it was building to something.. but I guess that something could happen on Raw or Smackdown for the next step, as I'm intrigued where they go with the new Bloodline after losing.

I'd take a manic Jacob beating the absolute shit out of Solo while shouting I LOVE YOU SOLO!

The booking team had too much to drink over Thanksgiving.

Actually I'd forgotten this as well. Genuinely had me cracking up. I knew I was tired at that point.
