It wasn't necessarily a criticism, I'm sure plenty of people think I overthink or over analyse plenty of things. It just sounds tiring that's all, but then I haven't really watched wrestling regularly for a long time. Quote

Again, wasn't a criticism and I'm not a fucking idiot, it's just that personally I find the critiquing of wrestling to the nth degree and all the minutiae etc involved to sound very tiring, but again maybe its because I've never been that into wrestling. If that's your jam, that's great and I like reading all the different opinions and I like that people are that passionate about it. I feel the same about film, music, football and lots of other things and I'm sure people find that exhausting. It's just not for me that's all. Or maybe I'm a thick cunt like you've tried to allude to. Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted December 5, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 5, 2024 (edited) I'm calm, thanks. It was a condescending response to your original condescending comment. It's fine if that's not for you. You don't need to tell people that they're way of thinking is exhausting or overthinking things etc. It's just not necessary at all. Either contribute to the discussion at hand, start a new discussion or maybe don't say anything. If people like to critique wrestling to the nth degree maybe just let them do it and stay out of it? I don't think you're a thick cunt. You seem like a good egg. Edited December 5, 2024 by LaGoosh Quote

Actually seems to energise and stimulate conversation getting a bit more in depth. Obviously that's not for everyone, but you know, no need to put down others for that. Quote
DavidB6937 Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 @SuperBacon I can see why you might think that. And maybe enjoying wrestling on a superficial level is far easier, but I'd argue that when you're really into something then it makes it a more rewarding experience when it goes right. And that involves the discussions and the backstage news and all of that as a package. It might look exhausting but the conversations and different opinions, especially on here, are genuinely one of my favourite parts about it. And I'll take exhausting over "LOL WWE SUX!" social media type enjoyment any day Quote

It just sounds tiring that's all, but then I haven't really watched wrestling regularly for a long time. But I suppose that's kind of my point. Exhaustive (and exhausting) analysis, dissection is what On-Topic is for. The medium of a message board lends itself to that, and there's a happy (well, on a scale relative to message boards) group of people who like going through that level of detail. Having someone who doesn't engage with that (which is fair enough) occasionally pop in to say that what they're talking about is boring, or in this case, over thought or whatever, grates on the people just happy nerding out and getting some escapism over their stupid gay fake wrestling, that they can't do anywhere else. Anyone's free to post whatever, wherever, of course, and I don't own the board nor am I a moderator, so I'm not trying to claim any kind of authority, just raising something that irks some. Irksome. Anyway, I see that others have chimed in, and I swear I'm not trying to start or be part of a pile on, so I will leave it there, because it's not interesting for anyone, but I've wanted to say this for a little while now, so hope I've not been too unpleasant. Should've PMed, in retrospect. Apologies for the derail Edited December 5, 2024 by Duke Edit: Off topic poster of the year though, I'll never sing that. Quote
The Gaffer Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Between watching wrestling is bad chat, AEW Vs. WWE, ratings chat, stop going on about ratings chat and...talking about wrestling chat? On topic's become severely existential and shark-jumpey this year. I don't remember any of this stuff existing before. It's quite odd. But I also think it's increased in parallel to the general quality of the quality posts going up and wrestling being in a bit of a boom period. Is this what we do in a boom? Is this our "Honestly if Kane joins DX I'm tuning out" on an Angelfire board stuff? Quote

Yeah it's a good point, and again, not saying its boring. It is interesting and doesn't grate on me. Trust me I wouldn't read them if I wasn't interested. There's plenty of threads on here that hold zero interest to me and I just don't read them. I like most of on topic and perhaps I worded it wrong as honestly wasn't being detrimental, it just sounds too involved for me and my current brain capacity that's all. It's like when people dicuss lore and call backs and those kinds of things for TV shows, it just sounds too much to bother with. Maybe I wish I still had that passion for wrestling I dunno. Its been a long week. As you all were nerds. I love you all x Quote

Its been a long week. As you all were nerds. I love you all x And that's the thing - for me, when it goes right and it's enjoyable, wrestling is absolutely my favourite thing to be into. There's very little you can say you've got a 30+ year relationship with and that it has the capacity to change so often and still be able to reference the past. I mean I assume it's comparable to when I see people lose their shit over someone old from Eastenders turning up, for example. You're right - it's about the passion. Like football is a massive thing for so many and you get your utterly loyal supporters through thick and thin. I'm like that with WWE. From such a young age I absolutely adored watching it with my mum and dad and I've never stopped watching it. Even when it got shit I stuck with it because there was just enough every so often to make me smile. It's my happy place, much like here is my happy place because I can talk enthusiastically about stuff. I can get deeper into the good and bad things about wrestling. I can laugh at stupid jokes. I can buy too many video games because people keep recommending them. I can learn more about crisps than I ever thought possible. But yeah, I never go into the UFC section and be like "what the fuck lads?". Quote

Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted December 5, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 5, 2024 (edited) I do think War Games is shit as a concept, especially since it has been brought back. Maybe that's just because I think the format of a Survivor Series match is better. HOWEVER, I would be ok if they just had one War Games match and a traditional Survivor Series match on the next one. And for balance, I'm not a huge fan of Blood and Guts, especially when it is shoehorned to be a yearly event and not for storyline purposes (i.e. if a storyline requires it rather "than oooh we haven't booked a Blood and Guts match this year, how can we quickly get 10 people to want to try and end each other?"). Edited December 5, 2024 by Hannibal Scorch Tell Lion of the Midlands he is being an absolute berk for me. cheers! Quote
