Maybe that's just because I think the format of a Survivor Series match is better. HOWEVER, I would be ok if they just had one War Games match and a traditional Survivor Series match on the next one. And for balance, I'm not a huge fan of Blood and Guts, especially when it is shoehorned to be a yearly event and not for storyline purposes (i.e. if a storyline requires it rather than ooo we haven't booked a Blood and Guts match, how can we quickly get 10 people to want to try and end each other. All for Survivor Series matches but can we promise we won't make it Raw vs Smackdown because if we have to see those fucking tshirts again.. Quote

Paid Members Supremo Posted December 5, 2024 Author Paid Members Posted December 5, 2024 (edited) Has it always been the case that, “THE MATCH DOESN’T START UNTIL ALL PARTICIPANTS ENTER”? I can’t help but think both War Games and Blood and Guts would be improved dramatically if the finish could come at any time. Like we’ve seen recently with the Casino Gauntlet. It’s far more exciting when you aren’t told not to care for the first thirty minutes. Imagine everyone hitting a finisher and going for the victory as the countdown clock allows someone to run in and make the save! You know, some actual drama beyond, “will they find the weapon they’re looking for under the ring?” Edited December 5, 2024 by Supremo Quote
DavidB6937 Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Just now, Supremo said: “will they find the weapon they’re looking for under the ring?” I keep wondering if this is deliberate or if they're all stupid. If it's deliberate then it's even more stupid because why would you book every single woman to look that dumb by not being able to find anything. I get angry every time I think about it. But then I think we probably would've been better off if they hadn't found those chairs.. Quote

Yes. The original set-up was that the match was War Games: "The Match Beyond", and "The Match Beyond" only begins when everyone is in the ring, and can only end by "submission or surrender". Later on WCW did a couple that could end by pinfall, but for the most part that's a WWE version of events - which again I think plays into the idea of WWE not really doing "violence" in the same way, so submissions being viewed historically in WWE as a cowardly way to lose. Dr. Alan Grant Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 I am a little fed up of the same spots being used. You just know that someone’s going to bring in a table. Both teams are going to have a face off across the middle ropes. Iyo’s getting in a bin. The only small mercy is there wasn’t a kendo stick in sight. I may have missed it, but did they tease another Tiffany Stratton cash-in during the match? Surely if at any point Liv or Nia were down for the count, there could have been a moment where Tiffy forgot about her teammates to take advantage. Quote

Both champs were down at one point and it was definitely hinted at. But like most of the rest of the match, apart from Nia's chair shots, pretty forgettable. Quote

Chili Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 (edited) If you had it end at any time and actually ended it before everyone was in, I'm sorry, but as different as that would be, I think it would absolutely be shit on. War Games as said prior, actually works even with the match can't start till everyone is in stipulation. But that section only works if it's two teams who want to beat the fucking bells out of each other, not do spots and bullshit. Basically it's an old school brawl match that works, but then falls to shit when you add modern styles of wrestling to it, or there isn't a good enough story. The match is the fireworks factory, not the last section, but that's what it is now, and everyone is now Milhouse watching one of Haku's rubbish sons blowing spots in a blood feud stip etc. Edited December 5, 2024 by Chili Absolute mare with the spelling Quote
Dr. Alan Grant Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Lovely camera angle. Impeccable timing by Punk and props to Bronson. I hope the injury doesn’t put him out for too long, he deserves something decent at Mania. Wasn’t there a Big Meaty Men Slapping Meat match that got cancelled this year? Stick him against Braun, Oba Femi and Omos (if he still works there) and give us a brawl around the arena. Quote

It was AEW that cancelled that match, however that came about because Bronson Reed was pushing for Meat Mania on Twitter. Quote

You know, some actual drama beyond, “will they find the weapon they’re looking for under the ring?” Might there be potential to combine War Games with a traditional Survivor Series match? Rather than the finish being able to come at any time, which might be hard to buy in to, eliminations could perhaps occur at any time? Either just to keep things ticking along during the "this doesn't count" section (ultimately still ending up 5v5), or to build a different story each year - constant eliminations throughout leading to a big 1v1 at the end, or the heels making use of their advantage to wipe out most of the team, ending in a 5v1 or 5v2 'against the odds' situation. Not sure how you could handle eliminations once you've got all 10 in the ring breaking up pins though. Next fall wins once all team members have entered? Might be getting a bit 'TNA reverse battle royal' at that point though. Maybe this match type already exists and I'm blanking on it. Quote

Forget CM Punk, AEW's fall from grace began at the exact moment they became COWARDS and cancelled Meat Madness. Big Bill, Brian Cage, Brody King, Powerhouse Hobbs, The Butcher, Toa Liona, Dutch, Lance Archer, Mason Madden, Satnam Singh ... and now you could add Lashley to that. Even without Wardlow, Joe, Killswitch or Keith Lee, the meat is there. The meat is there. ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS, TONY, IS MY MEAT MADNESS. GIVE IT TO ME Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted December 6, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 6, 2024 They cancelled it because Jericho didn't have a match on the show so changed it to some "All Star" bollocks and stuffed him in. It was rubbish if I recall correctly. Quote
