Van Morrison would be my contribution. Even before his anti lock down song with Eric Clapton (Another talented but problematic person) I had seen several journalists say "There are two sorts of people in the world. People who like Van Morrison and people who have met him" By all accounts a complete cunt but when you have a song that has over 10 million plays on US radio and is the most played and downloaded song from the 1960s and yet you saw not a penny in royalties you'd probably be a cunt as well.

Forefront of one of the worlds biggest bands in the 80s and 90s, songwriter, incredible vocalist and frontman. 

Just a disaster of law suits, sexual assault claims, arrests and being constantly hated by everyone he worked with. 

By all accounts his youth was pretty messed up, but he took the "wild rocker" persona way too far at times in the 80s and while in recent years he's turned most his attention to criticism of Donald Trump, it doesn't make up for years of just blatantly doing it all for the money at the expense of a fan base that gave way too much support to how he really was.

Was Davidson's content all in-laws/minorities shite during his prime time years? It's been the best part of 30 years since I watched any of it, but I don't remember him being as far in that direction during Big Break or the Generation Game. Doubltess would have tapped into it, because - yeah - it was a substantial part of his routine, but I feel like he branched out into being really unfunny on a wider level during that time.

Irrespective, I've always thought he was a truly awful comedian. Better than someone like Jim Bowen solely because he had some sense of timing. Though a young Gus Mears apparently found him singing 'Rudolph the Brown Nose Reindeer' during Big Break hilarious considering I remember it in 2024.

Davidson on stuff like Big Break was the only stuff I'd seen of his at a young age. Obviously it was a far more family friendly watered down version of him. I don't know what his "comedy" was like at the time but he's definitely gone down that route a lot of the older comedians do now of "back in our day!" and all that shite when they were happy enough making money off simple inoffensive comedy when it suited them.

Frank Miller in his prime gave us The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One, Sin City, some of the best of Daredevil, 300, but approaching old age went into anti-Islamic, libertarian, abusive territory which he calls a "dark time"... which doesn't seem to have entirely ended or been bounced back from.
