IronSheik
Mega geeky, but the following nuances within Wrestling have always intrigued me. "Monday Night Raw" and "Monday Nitro" being only 1 vowel sound apart from sounding exactly like each other. Aldo find it interesting that the phrase "Dusty finish" came from Dusty Rhodes' style of booking interference finishes in the NWA, but it works poetically as an adjective contrasting a "clean finish". Not as nuanced, but I'm still amazed that in July 1990 (Steve Borden) Sting and (Jim Hellwig) Ultimate Warrior were the champions of the two major wrestling organisations, having only 4 years prior broken into the business as a green as Goose shit team of roided nobodies. I'm sure there's a tonne of notable negligible little things like this. Paid Members BomberPat Posted August 22 Paid Members Share Posted August 22 nah, probably not intentional at all. "Nitro" was an existing bit of branding - TNT had done a block of programming called Saturday Nitro, and they reused the branding for Monday Nitro. Similar pun to AEW having Dynamite on TNT. Paid Members air_raid Posted September 2 Paid Members Share Posted September 2 Everyone know this but I always like that Macho Man won the WWF title twice then later the WCW title four times, and in perfect symmetry, lost them all to either Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair. Version1.0
JBL held the WWE Title for 280 days. He was defeated by John Cena who went on to hold the title for... 280 days. Also, who held the Tag Titles longer, all 7 of Edge and Christian's reigns combines, or the one reign of The Spirit Squad? (E+C 206 days, SS 216 days). IronSheik
The nWo returning on the Pay Per View 'No Way Out' was a pretty cool thing. Whoever came up with that deserved a raise. Edited September 4 by IronSheik

Paid Members Chris B Posted September 5 Paid Members Share Posted September 5 If you looked closely at the VHS release, they'd subtly joined the dots on that one. Â
cobra_gordo
Isn't that why the first No Way Out was called No Way Out Of Texas, so the initials wouldn't spell NWO? Or is that just conspiracy?

Yeh, I'd imagine it's broadly to do with wCw being a southern brand, and nitros being used in Nascar.

E&C are an interesting one as they are remembered as an all-time great tag team but were only really together on WWF TV for about two years at most.
Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted September 5 Paid Members Share Posted September 5 I remember a bit of trivia doing the rounds a few years back about tag teams who won the tag titles before both men go on to win the world titles. At the time, apparently the only tag teams to accomplish this in WWE were Edge & Christian, Diesel & HBK and Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins. Seemed like a suprisingly small number but then again, I guess tag teams where both members go on to be headliners is quite rare. Just thinking about it, I'm sure Kofi Kingston & Big E would qualify now.

I'm still a little amazed they brought Hulk Hogan back after 9 years and had him as NWO Hulk.

Or is that just conspiracy? The “No Way Out Of Texas” thing is mostly a retcon. In all the build up and on the night on comms it was just “No Way Out” or occasionally “In Your House : No Way Out.” Scary voiceover man did say “there’s No Way Out of Texas” at the open video IIRC and there was a little “Of Texas” on the match graphics but it didn’t get adopted as the full blown (apparent) name of the show until ages after it was already in the books. Even the VHS covers both Silver Vision and domestic just bear “No Way Out.” Shouldn’t annoy me, but does.
