Merzbow Posted July 15 Posted July 15 Pretty much on-topic, Russo (i know I know) has a new book and says in it that Eric was trying to sack Sting early on because he had to miss a show due to family problems. Eric was such a lying cunt in this episode too, talking about that the six sides were never ever taken advantage of when the X-Division were doing that every single week. He didn't watch an hour of TNA before signing, did he? Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted July 15 Members Posted July 15 As someone who doesn't know much about the TNA story, I really enjoyed the first two episodes. I don't particularly care for Jarrett as a wrestler, but he is a super engaging person and does have a big time character about him. Quote
Paid Members Rob Lowe Posted July 16 Paid Members Posted July 16 I'd completely forgotten about Dixie holding onto Hogan's leg as he's (legit) leaving. Every other person who leaves a company loses on the way out or is quietly taken off TV, but she was okay with that? Not only did she know nothing about wrestling, but apparently didn’t have basic common sense. Unhinged! I also didn’t recognise Scott D'Amore, looks like he runs a seedy strip club or something. I thought it was enjoyable overall but they skipped over so much and I would have loved more nerdy business stuff. They briefly mentioned the early shows being weekly ppvs, but didn’t talk about what a mental idea that was, how it failed or the bloke that lied to them about how many they were selling. Ive not watched a bunch of episodes due to being a sensitive soul so episodes like this or Buff Bagwell's mum shaving his balls are right up my street. Quote
andrew "the ref" coyne Posted July 16 Posted July 16 I love how they gloss over several years with.... "and then I got into the WWE Hall of Fame". "Hey, remember when you transitioned Global Force Wrestling into a pyramid scheme to sell gold cards?" Maybe another topic for another day. Quote
Paid Members herbie747 Posted July 16 Paid Members Posted July 16 The GFW part confused me a bit because it was never a real promomtion. It was just a logo. So how did they "merge" with TNA? Quote

Agree that he's engaging, and I like Jeff as long as he's not wrestling, but his lack of "big time character" is absolutely why he was never a star despite decades of him and Russo trying to sell him way above his pay grade. 7 hours ago, Rob Lowe said: I'd completely forgotten about Dixie holding onto Hogan's leg as he's (legit) leaving. I haven't seen this but was listening to a review of the three episodes, and like you, it reminded me of several things I'd forgotten. That got me wondering just how much shitstain TNA TV there has been over the years. My best estimate is 1.5 hours a week, taking into account ads once it became a TV show rather than a weekly PPV, when the show was 1 hour, dark periods and when they briefly had a B show, over 24 years. Add to that 296 PPVs/specials (according to Wiki) at about 2.5 hours each on average. That makes 2612 hours of their TV or 108 entire days. Fuck knows what that's filled with. I wonder if we all came up with a list of all of our favourite bits, would it fill half a day? Let alone 108. Quote

So how did they "merge" with TNA? They did some shows and taped some TV. Jarrett sued them later because they deleted the TV shows. The "merger" was effectively Jarrett going back to TNA and they started branding as Global Force for a bit. They even used the GFW ring with green ropes. They then fell out again, Jarrett left and it went back to Impact wrestling. All the lawsuits came after that. Quote

So how did they "merge" with TNA? GFW taped shows. Did some tours. Even coming across to the UK. There was meant to be a deal in place with Anthem to buy the GFW rights and library as part of Jarrett's return. That's what led to rebrand and using Amped tapings to fill some monthly PPV slots. The deal was never completed. As mentioned above it ended in lawsuits. Quote
