Darkside of the Ring season 4 discussion.

Just watched the first one.  Less a Darkside as there was no real backstage controversy, but a good documentary about the guy.  Highlight is Haku pissing himself to the extent that the crew were laughing too.  Cracked me up.

I enjoyed it purely because I like John Tenta and his work and it was good to see how great his family were and how hard he worked. Yeah, Haku seeing The Shockmaster and absolutely dying at it was brilliant. Tugboat seems like a bloody lovely bloke. I enjoyed the little revisit to the Kitao shoot incident too and how fucking raging Earthquake was in that moment. I think it was Bret Hart quoting his dad once saying 'I'd like to meet the man who can take Earthquake off the street' and he was right. Earthquake was an absolute unit of a man, he's got the build of a bear, why would you try him. Great doc, bring on the misery in the next episodes.

Buff's episode is pretty good, manages to mix the funny with the dark really well and both Slick Johnson and Missy Hyatt shine here. I didn't know that Slick was his childhood friend and had been with him throughout, him describing the infamous ball shaving was perfect. I somehow didn't know about the Shane Helms deal before this, either,

They have all been good episodes so far and I'm really enjoying this season. The Tenta episode was sad, the Bagwell episode was really interesting and gave a lot of new information about Buff's life pre-wrestling. I think the Gordy episode was my favourite. You forget how good he was. And so young, too. If someone like prime Gordy came around today they'd be the biggest star in the world. He was unreal.

Watched the Terry Gordy episode last night. Of course, I never saw him in his prime as it was too early for me. But years back I got into his All Japan stuff and then became obsessed with watching his matches and seeing just how good he was and he became a favourite of mine. Such a sad story. Seeing the difference in his eyes post coma and seeing how lost he was was horrible. And that RF video shoot where he was just vacant. It was a surprise he could still do it in the ring. But as Cornette said, the body was there, he could do the moves, but there was nothing behind it. Really good episode but just sad.

I think the Beefcake episode aired last night. I don’t know much about what could be dark about him besides the anthrax scare with his bag of coke.

Beefcake could be another episode where there's a more lighthearted approach, a little fun to be had with all those gimmicks.

I haven't watched it yet, but given the episode is called "Saving Face", I imagine it centres on his parasailing accident.

Based on the trailers it looks like it's the accident, plus a bunch of 'being Hogan's mate was hard on him, you know' stuff.

Going to watch it later. Hope they talk about the time his bag of coke caused an anthrax scare on the Boston subway system.

With ay luck, Beefer's DSOTR will include him trying to do a Gazza/Raul Moat on Toronto Mayor Rob Ford after the crack-smoking scandal in 2013. From his Wikipedia (so admittedly grain of salt and all that):

"On November 7, 2013, Leslie appeared at Toronto City Hall with a pair of shears and a submarine sandwich, claiming mayor Rob Ford "needed an intervention" in the wake of a high-profile crack cocaine scandal. Leslie offered to be Ford's "angel of mercy", saying "Maybe if he gets his body right, he will be able to get his mind right". Security escorted him from the property when it became apparent that Leslie was attempting to promote a brand of submarine sandwiches. The day before, fellow wrestler The Iron Sheik also tried to visit Ford, and challenge him to an arm-wrestling match."

Enjoyed the , Harley Race, Chris Colt and Chris Adams ones. I’ve started fast forwarding past the intros (as it gives away the whole story) and it’s much more enjoyable and surprising.

Also never realised Stone Cold was married to a Brit and had kids with her.
