Chico Torres Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Don’t patronize me with terms like naive and misguided, if you find exploited workers getting paid “grubby” then we will never agree and you appear to be offended by those poor billionaires having to share some of their wealth with people who they won’t even classify as employees. You seem a bit emotionally fragile in regards to be being challenged on the points you’ve mentioned. There is a whiff of Gary Stevenson off your posts M8. The Billionaires are not out to get you !! Also, and i think we are boring everyone at the moment , you originally referenced people rightfully rinsing money marks . Do you include Bischoff and Hulk Hogan in that ? Quote
TheScarlettChad Posted July 18 Posted July 18 I wouldn't personally but equally, I don't blame Chico for not feeling sorry for Dixie. She came off really horrible and callous in that documentary. I don't think she was as stupid as fans make her out to be. Quote
Merzbow Posted July 18 Posted July 18 If you think Chico is being extreme I probably shouldn't say anything... chairmanmao.jpg Anyway, the next episode probaly has the least amount of content to work with but it's the one I'm most looking forward too. Hope they got Eddie Kingston in to talk about Jo vs Necro at least, the commentary with him and CM Punk makes it an even better match. Quote

Dixie Carter carried on that proud legacy. I know that, and I don't disagree. I'm not defending money marks. My issue is purely with the people in the episodes (namely Jarrett, Russo, and Eric) being so smug about calling her stupid; because if they were so smart, then why did they need her? Jeff's version of TNA died after a few months (or weeks, depending what you consider the cut off). None of these goofs ever made money promoting wrestling (and they supposedly knew the business); so maybe they should have been a bit less cocky about calling Dixie out for failing at it too. I mean... she was taking their advice wasn't she? Bischoff made fun of her, but it was in 2010 under him and Hogan's booking reign when TNA started to go proper off the rails. They lost their TV deal because of Russo. Jarrett had to be bailed out by Dixie in 2002. They all failed too, despite the Carters money. Edited July 18 by herbie747 Quote
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted July 18 Paid Members Posted July 18 All the clips they used for an example of "when Jeff left, it turned to shit" were all from 2002-07. Dwarf having a wank, Shark Boy in a coma etc. TNA was bad more than it was good. Quote

They lost their TV deal because of Russo. Jarrett had to be bailed out by Dixie in 2002. They all failed too, despite the Carters money. That was the story at the time, but the VP of comms at Spike made a statement saying it had nothing to do with Russo and they didn't care if he was there or not. Maybe Russo planted that idea to make him seem more influential than he was. The real reason was Dixie messed up renegotiating the Spike TV deal. She wanted double what Spike were willing to pay. Dug her heals her in and wouldn't budge. Then when she realised Spike were not moving. She tried to accept their original offer but it was too late and the deal had gone. Spike preferred to let the contract expire. This in part, sounds like a lack of respect and ungratefulness from TNA (Dixie) towards Spike. When they had helped pay for their biggest stars (Hogan, Angle & Sting). Helped put on shows in the US & UK and with marketing. Numbers thrown around were Dixie was asking for $26m and Spike were willing to offer $14m. Mike Johnson reported this, same guy Vince Russo emailed by mistake instead of Mike Tenay which opened the can of worms. Quote

Paid Members Gus Mears Posted July 19 Paid Members Posted July 19 It was fabulously awful around then. Yet, I remember it vividly, which is more than I can say about 99% of wrestling I've watched over the past decade. Barbed wire Christmas tree, the reverse battle royal where everyone had to pretend they couldn't get in the ring, Rellik (that's killer spelled backwards). Truly the halcyon years. Quote
TheScarlettChad Posted July 19 Posted July 19 The Main Event Mafia angle where they killed Christian for going up north was something. And of course black snow. Doing commentary while wrestling. Booker was terrible in his TNA run but that was fun. Quote
