Thanks for the Waffly Bollox recommendation, I've given them a go and they're great. Really enjoying their Forbidden Door rundown.

Them calling Zack Sabre Jr "a windy boy*" absolutely creased me.

Never seen this channel before and it’s not a wrestling podcast but this guy had Jim Johnston on for two hours. Found it interesting. This man (and Jimmy Hart) were such a massive part of my enjoyment of wrestling as a kid, without me even knowing it at the time.

It's only just dawned on me watching that that I'd never actually seen Jim Johnston before. I've somehow avoided all pictures/clips of him despite being a fan of his work.

Amazingly, for someone who spent 3 decades in the pro wrestling business, he looks and comes across as incredibly normal.

Since it's been mentioned, will post our latest couple of timeline shows here, covering September and October 2000:

WWF episode - https://mcdn.podbean.com/mf/web/ru8wumbbrek45f9a/SCG_Radio_190_-_The_WWF_In_September_And_October_20007k4qo.mp3

Summary: It's all going on as the Love Triangle storyline goes from glorious at Summerslam to absolutely dead in shocking fashion right in line with Stephanie McMahon replacing Chris Kreski in the writer's room; Kurt Angle wins the WWF Title; Steve Austin returns and is looking for the man who ran him down, only to be dubbed The Great White Hope by vehicular deviant Rikishi; The Rock thriving with shocking booking; Eddie Guerrero and Chyna head to splitsville; Chris Jericho starts treading water; Raven and William Regal debut with polarising intentions and results; Raw moves to TNN and the long-term impacts; Billy Gunn returns and is as awful as ever, the Hardyz win the tag titles but E&C still linger and much, much more...

WCW episode - https://mcdn.podbean.com/mf/web/7ha7gz3qtbzm5duu/SCG_Radio_191_-_WCW_In_September_And_October_20006ql6i.mp3

Summary: A period that sees Vince Russo's ego get completely out of control, making himself WCW World Champion, getting multiple concussions in the process, before finally being turfed out once and for all. But fear not - you want absurd? How about heel Canadian Jim Duggan? Chuck Palumbo as WCW Champion? The worst televised women's match of all time? Bret Hart shooting on the WCW legal department? It's all here, as well as the idiocy of "Russo's Revenge", Booker T-mu Rock, the dumbest babyfaces AND dumbest heels of all time, David Flair's botched wedding, the San Francisco 49ers match and so much more. The usual chaos, calamity and confusion up and down the card that you'd expect from Russo's WCW, as this absurdly terrible promotion continues its death march in spectacular fashion.

Am posting these here now as our next WWF episode is coming next week covering November and December...

Both of you deserve all the credit in the world for having to watch WCW in late 2000.

It's weird, have zero inclination to listen to WWF 2000 stuff, but absolutely love hearing about the WCW stuff from that time, so will check that out. I actually think it's more watchable TV.

WWF in 2000 is overrated as fuck IMO. Its good solid booking, but you'd think those few months were the only time the company was any good. It also went off a cliff when The Kish ran over Austin for Da Rock.

Agreed, that's pretty much exactly when.

I think it gets praised more in today's circles as the in-ring quality went up on the undercards.

2000 fed is nothing less than great, it's just too tight and well written for its own good to really make for historical interest and many fun rewatches, outside maybe Fully Loaded and SummerSlam 2000.

There's fantastic stuff from that year, I recall both those shows being good (especially Summerslam), not to mention the Rumble and Backlash.

But it also felt like the first time in that era they'd book TV matches just for the sake of having TV matches. It felt a departure from the Russo approach of everyone having some kind of angle.

Nah its not like, January to August is absolutely fantastic, perfectly tightenly written storylines. A mixture between the best bits of the attitude era and really good actual wrestling, it was the peak of the boom. It's never been better.

After SummerSlam I'll give you, it started going downhill, Austin's return completely fucked everything, he was out of place in what itd become in his old guise.

As posted above mind, it was so good that to watch back it doesnt hold up. You had to be there and following it at the time to get it all. It was the best of times.

The combo of Austin coming back and being stale as fuck and Triple H nixing the Angle/Steph love triangle storyline cos his ego wouldn't allow him to be cheated on meant it was all starting to go south from September/October. Credit to Austin & Rock for getting the magic back for one last death rattle of the Attitude era at Mania 17.

Don't know if this means anything to anyone here, but an episode of Joe Vs The World popped up in my podcast app, the first in 5 years. Always enjoy these wry reviews of old WWF eras, though a lot has happened since the last one, so I don't know if that will affect fun nostalgia levels.

Just to drop this in here, a new series kicks off for us this week as Kyle Ross and I tackle a multi-part rebook of World Championship Wrestling in 1998.

Kicking things off by addressing and correcting the nightmarish Starrcade 97, we talk all things WCW and rework the main event scene from January through to the end of March, looking at new signing Bret Hart and how to get the most out of him at this critical juncture, as well as dealing with the inevitable split of the nWo - who goes where in the beginning and how we execute it while trying to deal with all the inflated egos. We also discuss turning Scott Steiner, evaluating the remaining titles and deciding the top matches and angles for Souled Out, Superbrawl and Uncensored as the WWF rallies on the other channel. A ton of fun to try and correct course at what is the critical point for WCW...
