WWE to Netflix, Network presumably doomed

I think there’s a fair difference between reliving Dusty Rhodes and Demolition matches from your youth and starting on the current stuff though.

I was forced to watch Eastenders over Christmas, a show I haven’t watched since the 90’s and popped for Cindy and Ian Beale etc, but other than “Fuck, is that Dusty Rhodes’ son?”, there’s very little in the current WWE product that would link anyone to the stuff they liked in the 1990’s.

Netflix or not, they're in the middle of a period that's as close to a 'boom' as they're ever going to get again.

Offices across the world reliving their disappointment about Savio Vega being the surprise won't impact that too much.

Yeah you're right there, I'm sure a lot of people will stop viewing at anything that isn't giving them a fix of nostalgia. 

It will be interesting to see if there  is a bit of a resurgence in returning fans, I do agree with you.

Yeah, they'll watch the old stuff, complain that the new lads are too soft/shite aren't like "Austin and Rock, when are they coming back to beat everyone? Where's Davey Boy? Didn't he wrestle....Bert Heart at Summerslam?"

The nostalgia thing definitely works. My brother in law hadn't watched since he was a kid but hearing about The Rock being involved in Mania got him watching around that period again with some of his mates and they've been watching ever since.

Similar with a few people I know. If the product was as bad as it was 2008-2015 then I can't blame anyone for not wanting to watch anything that wasn't a trip down memory lane for them, but, although it is flawed, the current product is pretty decent and watchable imo.

Probably worth saying that the fallow years were only bad for nerds like us who hung around for Backlash and the Great American Bash.

This period still broke records for them, saw them move into stadiums and - if you're a light or casual fan who might turn up for Mania season - had things like Rock/Cena (twice), Mayweather/Big Show and Undertaker/HBK which all did big business.

It's easy to characterise the bad years as being just bad. They weren't really. They just vindictively punished anyone who wanted to watch year round.

Can't really argue with that to be fair, and you're right they still did roaring business, if I think about it there is periods and matches that I could rewatch, and I suppose like some things other moments may appear better with the passing of time, but as a whole it was still real head in hands for TV for a lot of it.

Wrestling is doing well but the last thing I want is another proper boom period. Remember we're unlikeable smelly sods most of the time, imagine what we'll be like and more the point, DEM WANS if what we watch is actually cool for another 3 years again.
