Good Wrestling Twitter 2024

My favourite jobber of all time is retiring in December. I remember waiting for tapes to arrive in 2002-2004ish and trying to avoid spoilers for the big shows, and a big part of it was not wanting to know who the "X" was in the classic match up "Stalker Ishikawa vs X". Every major event he'd offer an open challenge, and every time a completely insane opponent would turn up to destroy him.

The X could be absolutely anybody and it was a delight every single time. Japanese legends past and present from all promotions like Mutoh and Kawada, Japanese women's wrestling greats like Aja Kong and Akira Hokuto, then completely left field choices like Abdullah, Akebono and Awesome Kong.

One of the finest arena lights inspectors I've had the pleasure of watching. This person has done an excellent twitter thread with many of his highlights:

Taker's probably jealous as fuck of Batista cos Dave was actually capable of doing MMA (retired undefeated, baby) whereas he just had to add grappling gloves to his deadman attire and pretend.

Dave's movie career probably just about shades Suburban Commando too.

Yeah Takers whole 'tough guy' routine gets a bit cringe for me at times. And I am a big fan of 'Taker and think he is one of the best characters in the business of all time.

But that's what he is, a character, and i suppose he did have 'the best hands in the business' by wrestling standards, but taking the whole hands and submission routine thing too far and waltzing round like you could put anyone and everyone flat on their back gets a bit silly for me.

In life, when it comes to things, if you could have, you would have imo, and like I say, I love 'Taker but he never stepped anywhere near a cage so I do think he could resent Batista over it cos you can see he does stick himself up as that charlie big spuds sort of man doesn't he.

For Undertaker, you could probably repurpose parts of Bill Watts' old rant on Kevin Nash: "He thinks he's the toughest son of a bitch in the world and some great booker: first of all, he's not tough, no basketball player is, and secondly, he couldn't book his way out of a wet paper fucking bag."

I remember some interview years ago where 'Taker said he would never have become a wrestler if MMA was around when he was younger, because fighting for real would be so much more interesting and appealing to him.

Never wrestled in college, never boxed, never did any martial arts training, but sure, whatever you say, Mark.
